There’s a mountain range in New Hampshire, and I was initially looking at the names of the major peaks. Most of them are named after Americans in US history, along with Native Americans, and select few major peaks are named after non Americans or Native Americans, the most well known being Lafayette. But Lafayette makes sense, being such a prominent hero of the US. The one that surprised me was Mount Tecumseh. When I first saw it I was like oh makes sense, it’s named after the Native American Tecumseh, he was prominent leader in the war of 1812. But then I remembered that he was a prominent leader in the war of 1812…..against the US. He allied with British Canada to fight the US, and he and Isaac Brock took the city of Detroit during the war. It’s not exactly common for places to honor their enemies (though it happens), so I was a bit surprised when I remembered that Tecumseh fought against the US, and never for

Idk if it's surprising but it's more ironic. There's a bridge near Sydney airport named after the first female pilot (in Australia, presumably), and the bridge goes over the road of a male pilot who took her to court for wanting to become a pilot.

Captain Deborah Lawrie was denied a job by Reginald Ansett for being a woman. Now her name will have pride of place on a bridge that goes over Reginald Ansett Drive, and the irony has not escaped her.

The part about the earrings made me facepalm so hard Did he also think female passengers would be in big danger if they had to evacuate too? Actually did he even believe what he was saying himself, or was he just desperate for ideas?
