ICAO is an organization that dedicates 4 letter airport and location codes (not to be confused with IATA, which gives 3 letter designations to airports). ICAO has a system whereby certain regions are given a letter code, after which the next letter gives a more specific location, and so on. For example, a location starting with K is will be in continental America, G will be westernmost Africa, and Z will be in China. However, no matter how many times you check the map below, one initial letter will remain elusive, the letter J. How can this be? The answer is that the map isn’t zoomed out enough, and therefore you can’t see JZRO, which is located in Wright Brothers Field – Jezero Crater, Syrtis Major quadrangle, planet Mars. Yes, we’ve reached the point that we have aerodrome codes for Mars now. Crazy
