So I clearly have made many threads about history. So it’s time for a history quiz

The quiz is as follows: I took an American anti war song, which references many conflicts that the USA has been involved in. Some of the references are clear (I am guessing that everything knows what recentish conflict makes sense for a mushroom cloud in Japan), while some are not so easy. Each conflict has 1-3 lines. Your job is to say if you know what it’s about, and you can add also say how much you know or don’t know about it (it’s okay to not know, I myself was iffy on one and didn’t understand one at all). Please put all answers in spoilers if you’re going to say what it’s about. If your answers are just yes I know it or no I don’t, those don’t need to be in spoilers. These go in order of when they happened, as a hint, and it’s an American song so all events include the US. If you want the full song, I put it as a spoiler in the end. Good luck!

1. “Oh I marched to the battle of New Orleans, at the end of the early British War. A young land started growing, the young blood started flowing”
2. “For I killed my share of Indians (I altered this word, but it’s the right meaning), in a thousand different fights. I was there at the Little Bighorn”
3. “For I stole California from the Mexican land”
4. “Fought in the bloody Civil War. Yes I even killed my brothers, and so many others”
5. “For I marched to the battles of the German trench, in a war that was bound to end all wars. Though I must have killed a million men, and now they want me back again.”
6. “For I flew the final mission in the Japanese sky, set off the mighty mushroom roar. When I saw the cities burning, I knew that I was learning.”
7. “Now the labor leaders screaming when they close the missile plants”
8. “United fruits screams at the Cuban shore.”

Also some people have expressed wanting me to make a taglist (I’ll probably do that tomorrow), but also if anyone wants me to keep doing history and wants me to sometimes do threads that aren’t directly me just giving information (like a thread like this), feel free to let me know and I’ll see if I can do it :sakuwu:

1. I was going to say war of independence but if it's a british war then I'm guessing they were fighting the french whilst still being under the colony. I don't know the name of this conflict.
2. Oh yikes uhhh this could be any conflict/massacre of indigenous Americans I just don't know enough to really pinpoint it.
3. That is the Californian war and taking the land from the Mexicans and taking manifest destiny and shit. Maybe mid 1800s.
4. Civil war, north-south shit.
5. WW1
6. WW2
7. Cold war genrally???
8. Bay of Pigs fiasco

I think you did well! Even in cases where you didn’t get it, you showed general knowledge of the era. Not enough to get them all right, but especially as a non American, I think you showed more than would be expected of non Americans

I’ll put answers below, if you’re curious.

1. New Orleans-I think you’re thinking about the 7 years war, in the US it’s known as the French and Indian war. Your reasoning makes sense and it’s a very important part of US history, but this phrase was actually taking about fighting against the British. It’s not the independence war though, it’s the War of 1812 (the Americas version). New Orleans was the site of the most prominent American victory of the war by far, and it also gave future president Andrew Jackson a massive popularity boost. The battle actually happened after the peace treaty was signed, which ended the war, but it happened before the US Congress ratified the treaty.
2. Little Bighorn-It’s true that the US involved itself in a lot of wars with natives. Little Bighorn specifically refers to a battle in the Great Sioux War. The US and Crow Indians led troops against a large group of Lakota and Cheyenne tribes. The US troops were led by Custer, who was a big war hero of the Civil War. But for the battle of Little Bighorn, Custer led a first charge, and he and all his troops died in that charge. It gained a lot of attention because Americans couldn’t believe that one of their war heroes was so badly defeated by a group of natives (in their minds).
3. California-Yep! The Mexican American war was right in the middle of the 1800s, and resulted in the annexation of California and Texas, which had both declared independence from Mexico very recently, along with other parts of Mexico.
4. Civil war-yeah this one’s pretty easy given the information that they’re all American related

Though the US has been involved in foreign civil wars, but they aren’t as majorly known ofc

7. Labor leaders- this one is the one I didn’t know. It is relating to the Cold War and Vietnam war, but it’s a bit more complicated. The way i understand it, it talks about the fluctuation in military production due to the ever changing nature of the Cold War. But it’s also talking about the attitudes people had about the military. Labor leaders often opposed wars and militarization, but at the same time often opposed demilitarization because while they were anti war, it also could often mean that people would lose their jobs because the spending for the military is cut. So it becomes a very hypocritical seeming situation, where they oppose war but are too dependent on war for their livelihood to funny oppose it.
8. United fruit-Yep! Or any of the other 1000000 Latin American conflicts the US was involved in. But the Cuba part fits well for Bay of Pigs specifically.
