Unfortunately that's the logical consequence when an awesome group have awful company support.

Its been confirmed by Sihyeon that EVERGLOW will stay a group, just leaving the company
Then they need another company (I'm not sure if crowdfunding would work in K-Pop) and we all know how long it took last time before we had them back.

interesting

I will add though that while there is certainly allegations that YH is a shit company - one must also acknowledge that maybe, just maybe that EG just weren't profitable????

Nope, those girls did their part. Athena gave excellent talent a d performances. The money making is purely on the company. They had a good following, had views. I bet if the books were opened someone would be in trouble.

athena? I don't remember an athena in EG...

that i disagree with - in kpop the product is the artist that's why parasocial relationships are a thing
yes it's up to the company to try to market the artist to the GP but there is only so much a company can do

again I'm not saying they are the same situation but we saw very clearly from BBC and Loona that BBC overspent on Loona and no amount of promotions could recover those funds
Thus in kpop (and most things) there will always be a line that at some point the investment into the group will just not bring about the returns - that just putting more money into something does not guarantee a return (again I'm not saying whether YH did this or whether they failed to promote properly)

I would agree with more transparency in accounting especially for kpop groups - I've always said I have nothing against "unfair terms" per se but rather that the accounts should be more transparent in what constitutes an expense and whether that is attributed to the artist or the company and what constitutes revenue etc etc and that such information should be provided to the artist on the regalar like monthly or quarterly

But whose fault is that? Everglow's La Di Da was named the best kpop song of 2020 by Billboard. Adios and Dun Dun peaked at #2 and #3, respectively, on the US World Digital Songs chart, and every song they released reached the top 20. They always had B sides charting too, with no promotion. They were selling 30-50K per album, even with inconsistent and infrequent releases. Their albums consistently broke the top 10 on Korean charts, and their most recent title had their highest charting position yet in Korea. They had sold out shows on their tours.

A competent company would have seen their, yes, relatively small, but enthusiastic fanbase, and found a way to make them profitable, ala Dreamcatcher. Instead, Yuehua would drop a release, do bare minimum promotions, and then ignore them for a year or more. Quite frankly, the fact that they did as well as they did is a testament to how strong a fanbase they have.

you want to make it as if everything was YH's fault - again I'm not saying they aren't but at some point one must admit that there is a point to throw good money after bad and that some groups (EG might or might not be one of them) just won't ever be profitable...
everything costs money - every promotion/music video/music show stage/food/transportation etc etc costs money and I'm pretty sure all those things are deemed under the artist's account (whether it should or not is a separate matter)

you mentioned a whole lot of stats my friend and yet we know that yiren claimed that still she wasn't paid and the YH CEO came out and said that was because of the extensive investment into them...now again we don't have the numbers but I'm pretty sure the EG members do and if they felt they were hard done by "creative accounting" then I'm sure they would have an issue with it but even with those numbers YH deemed them not profitable enough

yes there might be an argument that for latter releases YH did do the min but I go back to my original point that maybe EG just wasn't profitable enough to warrant extensive investment. I reiterate the point I made to the panda above - there always comes a point where a company cannot just continually invest in a thing/product/group etc since the investment on that return just isn't there (again I'm not saying whether EG and YH reached that point or not) but YH probably deemed that EG just didn't warrant it's investment and that is a business decision

I'm wondering if they just... didn't handle the investment well, especially being YH's first group. I'm reminded of another situation recently where the same creative team was given a "low budget" for one group and they still made multiple quality MVs with well-received releases, and were given a blow-out budget for another group, and it's hard to tell where the budget went.

And tbh, even to an extent how our i-dle girlies complained about having to invest in the Super Lady MV, dropping 1.1 billion won, and then Super Lady was their worst performing track in years, arguably worse than Wife and definitely worse than their unexpectedly popular B-side Fate. I know some Nevies were mad at Cube not investing in what i-dle wanted, but you know, maybe Cube was right on that one.

Which kinda goes back to what I originally think: it takes a competent company to balance investment and results well, and I think YH fumbled the bag on that for Everglow.

What company managed them before they joined Yuehua? Stone Music?
? Everglow was formed by Yuehua and was always under them. Stone Music Entertainment is a third party that helped with distribution.

So the question is, why did Yuehua support Everglow way better in the past, when they released songs like 'First', 'La Di Da', 'Adios', 'Pirate'? Those songs had good songwriting and production and were successful ('La Di Da' was very successful). Ollipop was the main producer of Everglow's songs until 2021.

It seems Yuehua didn't want to invest in a good producer/songwriter again when Everglow came back in 2023. 'Slay' and 'Zombie' were ok-ish, but nothing compared to their songs from the past.

that I can agree with

I can also agree with that but most of the title tracks were/are soyeon's idea (I'm sure the rest of the members and Cube do contribute) but just that she does have a major say in it and the MVs as well. I can agree that sometimes some things work and other times they don't just like kpop songs that sometimes hit it out of the park and other times we're like WTF????

I agree with that in part - I think part of it is YH's fault, part of it is the members fault and part of it is just that maybe the group/songs just failed to resonate with the Korean or kpop GP

which I why I brought up the fact that maybe YH just bailed on EG since the return on the investment just wasn't there. ie. the returns on the initial investment were good but they weren't seeing the financial returns on them so for the latter releases they did the bare min...
