In my defense, I never read or watched anything Les Miserable related. I heard a couple songs and heard a bit from others, but didn’t look deeper into any of it. But the little I heard made me think it was about the French Revolution of 1789, the famous one that deposed Louis the 16th. And it seems like a lot of people said that. But now I’ve learned that it’s absolutely not about it, and that it’s about a much smaller much less successful revolution (if you consider it major enough to be such) led by students in 1832. Looking at the plot, assume that I’d have realized it’s not about the famous French Revolution had I read the book or watched any adaptation, but there definitely seems to be plenty of people who read it or watched adaptations but still attributed it to the wrong revolution

whereas for the 1789 one it's everwhere, like in musicals alone there's the french 1789 (obvious) among others, the german marie antoinette (also obvious), the american scarlet pimpernel, the entire rose of versailles series in japanese + the recent korean one, tale of two cities or le roi soleil if you want to push it a bit further, even shows about robespierre

I haven’t seen it, but I can’t image it’s that much more out there than actual gladiatorial fights
