Switzerland has 4 official languages: German, Italian, French, and Romansh. The name Switzerland is different in all these languages. In Swiss German, it’s Schweizerische Eidgenossenschaft (Schwiiz for short). In Italian it’s Confederazione Svizzera. In French it’s Confédération suisse. And in Romansh, it’s Confederaziun svizra. Most have similarities, but they aren’t the same. Now, it wouldn’t do to pick one of those as the official name right? That would be favoritism. So instead, the official name of Switzerland is Confœderatio Helvetica, completely different from the rest. It comes from the old Roman name for Switzerland
