Last month, in July, we had the honour of awarding User of the Month to @centen. She sat down with us for a short interview.

1. How did it feel to be selected as User of the Month? Did you ever expect you would be given the title?

Genuinely shocked! I didn't think I would be selected when there are so many amazing people to select from, but I was so happy to get the notification. KPS has such a lovely community that I'm grateful to be part of.

2. Do you have any other interests outside of K-Pop?

I think people know I crochet, I'm working through a book I got so I'm building up to making a blanket. I'm also pretty into weight lifting, yoga, and boxing; I try to do a lot of different things though it means I'm not especially good at any of them lol. I'm really into games, both Nintendo and board games. I've got a table that has a recessed vault where you can play board games (or puzzle or whatever) and then put the toppers back on to have dinner before going back to gaming. I bought it specifically because I've always wanted to have a home that was very welcoming to be at and be part of a community.

3. Could you tell us something that most people here don't know about you?

I have two lists for "new (to me) things" that I've both tried and want to try. I try to make a concentrated effort to have a lot of experiences, even small things. I stole the idea from a podcast, but if you haven't done it, it can be a lot of fun! Like "look at all these cool things I've been able to do." This year. I've made jam, joined a puzzle competition, went to an AMPERS&ONE concert, fed a parakeet... Just random things that make the days better and less "work, sleep, eat, repeat."

4. What's something that always brings a smile to your face?

My friends! Just a random text or an old photo can bring up so much positive feelings. I love those little reminders that you exist for someone even when you're not physically around to remind them, you know?

5. What superpower would you like to have?

Teleportation! Objectively the best superpower. I like being in new places, but the process of getting to them suuuuuuucks.

We came in third in my first one! Which I feel like is not too bad considering I'm not a huge puzzler before this.

It might be done differently elsewhere, but the local ones near me have teams of four, and the fastest to put together a specific 1,000 piece puzzle is the winning team. You're usually given 2-3 hours to do it in, so they have contingency rules for if there aren't three teams who manage to put it together. (Then it becomes "who has the fewest pieces left" where groups of at least 5 pieces count as "completed.")

We've done a couple now, and even just those insights, I've learned a lot! Like puzzles with more distinct details are easier than ones with gradients or abstract details. Like our most recent one had "flowers" but the flowers were all smudges of paint to look artisty, which is nice when it's completed, but on a piece, you just get a smudge of pink and it's not clear where it goes.

I also learned a lot of puzzle brands have one picture on the box, but the actual puzzle is bigger, so there might be a border that's not displayed on the box or something. And I personally prefer puzzles with lots of shapes, but some puzzle companies make theirs so all the pieces have two tabs on the end and two indents in the middle (like this), which sucks when it's also combined with those fuzzy details or gradients, because then you don't even have a shape to use as a guide.

There's a surprising amount of strategy involved!

It's pretty new, only within the last 3-4 months or so? I really like it. It's surprisingly thinky, which helps keep me focused and in the moment in class. I can mind wander pretty easily, so I like having that time that's just dedicated to getting better at something, you know?
