opinions on Cortis' debut EP? (1 Viewer)

I haven't listened to it bc their first release really put me off. But is the album better than that, or is it just as bad?

Same as you. I knew they came out and did insane numbers (because Big Four always does), but Go was such a nothing track, I haven't made time to listen to it. Maybe I'll put it on for background noise tomorrow.

I actually do like Go and especially What You Want, though, so maybe my opinion isn't worth much. Both songs needed some time to grow on me however.
I think the song Joyride is worth listening to in any case because it shows a different side to them. For example, it's their first song where you can actually hear what they sound like. Of course it's one of the songs that they didn't promote.
Overall it's quite poor, and yet, paradoxically very promising? I am sold on their sound and general vibe, and if they hone in on what makes them different they could be cooking something. I need them to lay off the BigHit autotune, though. It has always sounded godawful, but please, I beg, we are in 2025.

I think if you have time you should make up your own mind!

They will have better, more loved releases in the future, I'm sure of it. Also, they just seem really likeable and charismatic as people.

I listened to their whole album earlier, and I agree with your current ranking. idntt > KickFlip > CORTIS

Just knowing they're Big Four, I'm sure talent-wise, CORTIS is fine. It's just a matter on if they'll ever get music that showcases it. I know Big Hit loves their auto-tune, but they need to dial it waaaay back.

I heard them perform on music bank a week or two back. I bet if they're given the material they could sing good BUT they sounded horrible during what you want. It's that type where they weren't singing, just shouting.

I like it, txt's debut album was still probably better overall but I felt like cortis debut has higher peaks than txt.

Not really. Why suffer through the k-pop industry to just make this type of music? There are much better ways to create this sort of sound without having to go through k-pop. Besdies, it's not like fans seem to care about the artistic quality anyways.

because thats the music that the members wanted to make, and there is nothing with wrong that.

Yeah, independent labels, hiphop labels. I don't understand why you'd want to make music like this and be in the kpop industry at the same time. I don't think K-pop has a particular sound nor should genres be segregated, but if the guys want creative control then there's no reason to do it under Hybe out of every company.
I didn't imply that there's anything wrong with the sound, like come on their beats are so inoffensive that I don't get why there's so much discussion around them, I'm implying that the K-pop industry is known for holding people back and limiting creativity. I think it sucks that these guys are most likely to get the worst out of both worlds.
(Realistically I know they aren't able to get out of their contracts.)
