You could go back to the shop and complain about the defect cable. If they don't believe you, they should try it out themselves. Maybe they'll give you another cable in exchange.

Yep, it sucks. I hate such quality control issues too. But most of the time it's not the shop's fault. Unfortunately there are companies that repack and resell their returned defective stuff.
