Intro Hello - 안녕하세요 (1 Viewer)

Hello!

I'm a fan with a lot of thoughts and opinions about the current going-on's in K-Pop who found myself missing somewhere to express them. After over a decade of Reddit being my only outlet I decided to move on after politics started to influence the K-Pop subs that I feel should be apolitical. At a loss of where to go and missing the forums of old I set to google and found this place hoping it's for me!

I'm a slightly older fan (36) (are there any others my age on here?) and I only got deep into K-Pop relatively recently, I was first exposed to it through SNSD back in 2007 (most members are actually the same age as me so we grew up together) but it was a different time with not as much content accessible in the west so I would call myself a casual fan occasionally exposed to K-Pop until Twice got me through a tough time a few years ago, since then it's become a primary hobby for me and I've even taken to traveling to different countries for concerts.

I consider myself a multistan centered around JYPE, since Twice got me into it I naturally fell into Itzy and Nmixx and those 3 are my main groups but I also follow some former Wonder Girls members (Ahn Sohee and Sunmi), Lee Chaeyeon and Somi by association. And I'm a casual fan of several other groups and soloists as well! I of course follow the SNSD members and I'm a really big fan of Seulgi (Red Velvet) for her solo content and I'm also a big fan of Kim Wan-sun.

This March I will fly to Paris to see Nmixx (anyone else going?) which will complete my holy trinity after I saw Itzy in London (2024) and Twice in South Korea (2023).

K-Pop to me is a wholesome oasis in the otherwise over-politicized and over-sexualized world of today (which is why I fell for the innocent cute concept of Twice) and I try to keep it that way, even though the occasionally drama might be unavoidable.

That is about all I have to say about myself in regards to this, I've never really had anyone to share this hobby with so I hope to find some like-minded friends on here - in time. :) Thanks for reading, and have a nice day!

Hello! I think you're the first newcomer (who has bothered to post anything) this year, so that's fun!

There are definitely people the same age (and also much older) than you, so I'm sure you'll fit right in! It's so cool that you've seen so many great acts! I'm a bit envious~ I've only got two concerts down, but they're relatively local to me. Do you make a point to combine a concert with general travel? As in, you've always wanted to go to Paris, so you'll see NMIXX and do other tourist stuff while you're there? Or are these trips just for the concert and then fly back?

Being European I've not had much interest in other European countries (most are quite similar) but I do consider certain places like Paris or London on the list of 'places you should see at least once in your life' and I do like to travel for the sake of traveling and seeing new places as well. So you hit the nail on the head with me making a point of combining concerts with general travel, I probably would never have gone to either of these places otherwise.

You might catch a theme if I tell you some of my other biases are Seulgi (Red Velvet), Soyeon (Idle), Sohee (Wonder Girls) and Haerin (NewJeans) to name a few. I've somewhat of a weakness for cat eyes and really calm personalities.

I'm really curious what Taeyeon's concerts smell like since I know she utilizes unique scents with each one, I almost went to Hong Kong for her but sadly the timing didn't mesh for me, I'd go out of my way for anything SNSD related and catching Taeyeon one day is probably my best bet. Otherwise I'd be happy to see anyone I like provided I'm in the same country at the time.

You have good taste! Momo is my bias wrecker and I pulled her on both Poca's in the first album that I bought (The Story Begins), later on I was given another Momo Poca as a freebie when buying (you guessed it) Momo merch so for the longest time all the merch and Poca's I owned was just Momo. Oh and I love Seulgi so much, she is one of my top 3 favorite idols (Yeji, Seulgi and Sohee) even though I never got heavily into Red Velvet.

I actually visited Lily's hometown in Australia (Marysville) and it's probably the most beautiful place I've ever been to. It's a really small and friendly place, the motel owner even told me I could just leave the key in the door when I check out because they all trust each other there. The town is surrounded by a valley and you can hear the echo of Kookaburra's from the mountains in the evening, there's a lot of friendly tropical birds and little lizards and the food at the local inn is great. I also hiked the Keppel Trail while I was there and the view from up there was breath taking, probably the only time in my life that my jaw has literally dropped. She is so lucky to have grown up there, it's a bit complicated to get to though.

If you like nature and wildlife I highly recommend it! One of the craziest things that happened to me was when a massive Lace Monitor came running out the bushes. It's a lizard the size of a large dog and some jogger just brushed past it like it was normal but I was blown away, lol.

Monitors are so cool I'm a big zoology nerd and herper so despite like 90% of stuff there being venomous I'd love to admire everything from a respectable distance

Then I highly recommend Brisbane in the summer, I stayed near the city center which a river runs through and it's chockers with Lizards and you can visit Australia Zoo nearby (The home of the Irwins which is more of a rehabilitation and conservation center than a traditional Zoo so it's good for the animals).
