I was a good kid, this is their words. But I also got punished for every bad thing I did. I'm not complaining, perfectly valid, but at some point it starts to get unfair.
Ass whoopin's, no dessert, no tv, no toys, a list of punishments that I've experienced growing up, but as my parents say, "yall are good kids". I ask my mom, "Have you ever been disappointed in me" she says no. I've done what I'm told, I forget sometimes, and as of lately punishments are very tame, and that's the problem.
My little brother just turned 9 a few days ago, he's disrespectful, doesn't know how to read because he refuses too, wastes food, wastes bathroom supplies, and for the longest time (4 to 5 years in total) NO PUNISHMENT. "What the hell", that's what me and our siblings are thinking. Why is he just getting away with this? "You aren't the parent", "Mind your business" that's just two of the things we hear everyday, he also throws these wild violent tantrums too, that he also got away with for a while.
This is where it gets funny, when we bring how we were raised, THEY GET OFFENDED. When we bring it up, we aren't even saying its a problem, we are saying DO IT AGAIN! You have a kid that actually needs that treatment and you suddenly want to try "Gentle Parenting"? Giving a kid what he wants is not gentle parenting, its enabling! Now he think he's boss around here because you LET him walk all over you. When my older brother tried to explain to our mom that he doesn't get enough discipline, she said "This isn't 2012 anymore", WHAT THE HELL? This constant circus life is taking a toll on my metal health bro, and I can't even complain because then they'll have a problem with that!
Anyways, thank you for coming to my ted talk
