Cape buffalo are often the prey of lions, but can hold their own against them, especially as a group. There are even known cases where Cape buffalo will go out of their ways to kill lion cubs, which is very usual for a prey animal to do to predators.

Cape Buffalo are rarely kept due to their aggressive nature as well. I think only two AZA establishments work with them and one is a safari park. Crazy when Polar Bears, Chimps, and other unpredictable animals are quite common
