Al Capone was an infamous gangster during prohibition. A plethora of crimes can be attributed to him, including bootlegging, murder, drug trafficking, bribery, and much more. However, due to how the justice system worked, the only crime he was ever convicted of was tax evasion. All the other crimes couldn’t be definitively pinned on him, or didn’t go through to conviction because of bribery, corruption, threatening witnesses, and so on.

Perhaps, though he probably didn’t take a direct role in a lot of that stuff and more so ordered lots of them. Plus you can bring in all the most damning evidence and it won’t matter in the slightest if the entire jury is threatened by his men (I don’t know for sure if he did that successfully but I think he did, at minimum for the tax evasion trial he tried that but it failed because they replaced the jury last minute).
