Although we know it as the Hoover Dam now, at the time of the dedication it was called Boulder Dam, largely because the new FDR administration didn’t want Hoover closely attached to it. But the names were used interchangeably at the time, and as memories of the Great Depression faded, it began to be called Hoover Dam more often.
