The history cookbook I’ve been using lately has a cake recipe from the Roman Empire. It sounds tasty, but the a big reason I want to make is because it’s called placenta, and I want to be able to see people get dumbfounded when I tell them I baked a placenta And if you’re wondering, the organ is indeed named after the cake. Because why not

Havnt seen a dessert one but
There are recipes like legit recipes. lasagnes, ragus, homemade hot pockets

Not sure tbh. They may just not have had a specific name, lots of body parts weren’t really given specific names until relatively recently. There are still lots of cases where a language won’t have a separate name for the body parts (plenty of languages don’t have a word for foot for example because the foot and leg just have one combined name). Or it’s possible there was a word that over time just faded away.

Is this 'Tasting History' by Max Miller perchance? If so, is it worth getting? I mentioned it in another one of your threads but I do enjoy cooking (a bit of a hobbyist chef) and I love history so I've been watching him on YouTube and often consider making a few of his recipes.

Also, as a random side-note I remember flipping through some books when I was a kid that I had found in the back of a cabinet, books about giving birth (with pictures) and this was my first time seeing a human placenta. This memory always resurfaces at the word even though I've seen many others since! Sometimes I wonder if curiousity is a curse..

I definitely think it’s worth it. It’s well put together, the photos are visually great, and it has everything from recipes from ancient Babylon to 20th century USA. I definitely won’t be making all of them, I am a bit picky and some recipes have things I don’t like, but the history is interesting nonetheless
