At my house, we just tape it for months to years, it gets held together by tape

Um... yes? It kind of depends on the cable and how important the damage is. Like if it's something that requires an electrician, that's different from, say, my phone charging cable where I can buy another one from basically any place and fix the problem immediately.

It probably helps that I don't actually have electrician's tape, so either way, I'd have to buy something, so I might as well buy the permanent solution lol.

It really depends on the cable and how necessary it is. Some things can wait, some cant
