Have you ever been discouraged from starting a new hobby? (1 Viewer)

I've considered collecting Pokemon cards recently, and also other anime related cards, but it's all just so expensive. You have to buy card packs (if you can even get your hands on them) and then hope you don't get any repeats, cards you dislike, etc. Another thing to worry about is scalpers. One of the types of people that I hate the most.

Honestly I just want to collect cute little cards. I don't care about the value of them. I just like the art on them, and I'd love to collect the Pokemon and characters that I really love. There are just so many cute pretty cards, but it kind of doesn't feel worth it if it's just going to drain my wallet. A girl can dream I guess..

Yeah, I think some hobbies have just such an expensive entry point, and it's not really worth it to me, because what if you spend all that money and then find out that you don't actually enjoy it that much? I'd rather a hobby where the initial cost is low, and then you can upgrade if you find you really like it.

honestly hobbies are time consuming for me bc I alr do so many
I also didn't want to get into kpop albums because I knew I would like them too much TT
so I started buying cheap albums from Amazon , but also going to target for exclusives, but I have saved a great deal of money doing that

A board game store local to me sells "singles" which are just specific cards. Maybe you can see if you have a local store that will let you look at their singles, and you can get an idea of how you can start with just your faves?

Or go "dang, that's too much" and do something else.

I actually did go to a store that sells cards with my brother a few months ago, so I might actually look into going there again. Just need to do some research before going there. I'm too afraid of looking like an idiot if I don't

running a eurovision youtube channel - idk i just thought it would be fun to yap about my favourite songs and stuff but then i realised how humiliating it would be to see my videos have like 20 views before i "make it", thankfully the trash took itself out as eurovision isn't even worthy following anymore

also crocheting and knitting... watching the most basic tutorials and still not being able to follow through made me feel like an idiot and i hated it so i chose to stick by macrame as my handmade craft of choice

As a former huge Pokemon card collector, it's not worth it atm unless you do a natdex project or something else that can come out cheap. I have a natdex challenge on pause where the max I can pay for any card is $5

Check out goodwill, thrift stores, second hand stores, facebook groups on yard sales. I'd find them even at Marshalls and TJ Maxx sometimes (the best option if you want unopened packs.
I had a bunch of cards from the early years and then they got handed down to my baby cousins who gave them to the Salvation Army because >.> they're ipad kids.

There have been sports I would have liked to try, but didn’t because they aren’t that easy to find in my area and can be expensive (diving, acrobatic gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling, etc)

Plus being a Kpop girlie I don't and won't ever have money to start other hobbies anyways. My hobbies/collector is honestly trying to pull hyunjin cards and grow them

yes. i'm a bassist and i have and can play acoustic guitar, but for the longest time, i've wanted to pick up electric guitar. the problem is, i don't have the money to buy a whole new instrument as they can be expensive, especially if you want something good. (and not to mention gear ugh)

i'm already saving up for a 5-string bass as i am in need of one, and the one i'm eyeing is like 400-500 dollars

, so i just don't have extra money for an electric guitar 😭 on top of that pedals, chords, etc. i already have trouble buying bass pedals.

and on top of all that, time...

i wouldn't have a lot of time on my hands to practice. i could technically do basic stuff but a reason why i wanna learn e-guitar is because my team lacks a committed guitarist so it would be a huge help if i could pick that up
