So many movies and tv shows show a defibrillator used by medical staff when someone flatlines, in an attempt to start their heart again. But in reality, this would be useless because defibrillators are actually used when someone’s heart has a dangerous rhythm (extremely fast, chaotic, etc). Defibrillators do this by actually stopping the heart, at which point the body naturally restarts it. So you wouldn’t use it if someone’s heart is stopped. Now you can laugh at media getting this wrong. You’re welcome

There used to be a blog called "Polite Dissent" during House M.D. era tat mentioned instances of defibrillators being shown wrongly used.(it[the blog]'s mostly defunct now). A GP doctor wrote reviews/stuff abt shows with medical settings/thi gs. Defibrillators nowadays sometime also show compressions in tandem/after shocking the heart, but it's so widespread tat some shows just show shocking the heart(I wonder if tv people read Dr Polite Scott's blog or smh caught wind of his reviews/comments n tats why shocking the heart isn't shown as much anymore as much as back then).

That is more accurate to be fair. Perhaps briefly pausing the heart is a more accurate compromise between medical accuracy and layman simplicity?

but yeah, think of it as pushing someone to go faster or intercepting someone running to slow 'em down, there's no pause in play, it's merely modifying the cadence, of sort...

Unless you body slam them into the ground when you intercept? In soccer that would result in at least a minute pause while the victim rolls around in “agony”
