to those who knew me, they know that i only had a computer and laptop (for my online classes back in the pandemic) and could only get my own phone in college

i’m still in senior high school but i moved to a city alone (during my first month) for school so they had to give me a phone

but now my beloved laptop is broken. AND i have online classes again because our school was BADLY DAMAGED from an earthquake last year

so it got me thinking…
if you had (or you actually have) kids, at what age would you allow them to have their own phones ?

I think I'd let them have at 13 but only on certain sites that I think are alright for them to use and ofc teach them how to be safe online so they can be smart I would not be the person I am today if I didn't get to be on all these years so personally I dont want someone to have to wait till they are frickin 16 or smth to start living their online life

My guardian is strict and look how thats worked out, I STILL have an online life but now its a secret and I cant come to them if anything bad happens I'd cry, I love all the time spent here

i would give my child a very basic phone as soon as they start wanting to use public transport or walk home. Its pretty common in here for 2nd graders to go home by buss and i would be so scared if they wouldnt have a phone. But i wouldnt give them internet time by themselfs with their own devices until they are 12. They could use my laptop and tablet until then.

Hmm. I'm not sure. I don't plan on having children.
If I did, I'd let them have a basic phone (no internet) once they start school. I'd wait 'til about 14 for a smartphone, just to save them a little from doing stupid stuff like I did. They can have (lightly, just to make sure they're safe) monitored access to the internet through a family computer or something until then.
