I saw the new band that just debuted (hrtz.wav) has a masked drummer. The Google tells me that he was formerly an influencer, and has always had a mask as a schtick.

Are there other idols who have done this, even if just for a particular comeback? I know Pink Fantasy was one... I can't remember if the bunny thing was supposed to be permanent, or if they just disbanded before it became not permanent.

That's why I had to Google this guy!! The band is very light pop-rock-y, but his mask is very "could be from a slasher flick"

It’s not a group ofc but I do want to mention the show Dance War, where that was the concept. And I know that was based on the masked singer show, but at least in Dance War they danced together so it’s fractionally closer to being a group

I could be misremembering but I think the bunny head was going to be removed when they got a win which was uh ambitious

hrtz.wav’s masked member is really interesting. The group was formed on a survival show and he even had the mask back then. People were seriously impressed with his talents that they voted him without ever knowing what we looks like. Which is pretty interesting to me in an industry that puts such a high importance on visuals

I looked up their survival show later on, because I saw that he was literally picked as the best drummer from the first episode and never lost that perception. And if anything, I think their debut as a band is under-utilizing his talents. For a masked dude and a drummer who is reserved for the back, he has a really charismatic way of performing.

Despite the slasher-esque mask, I get it now.

Oh, boy, with how saturated the market is that really was. There were/are groups that had pretty sizeable fanbases who never got a win or only managed to eek out only one. (My Dreamcatcher bbs)

Yeah, it definitely seems more popular outside of Korea. The drummer who made me ask the question was an influencer in Japan, and apparently, there are a few masked groups/celebrities there too. It does seem kind of smart, to be able to retain some privacy. It'd suck to never be able to go for a walk or go grocery shopping or whatever again, just because now you're a musician.

This turned out to not be true, I think or they went back on it. I remember hearing about that

Looking into it I found out that it seems to be something the members said while laughing a week after they debuted which was the only time it was mentioned and people just ran with it so whether they would have actually done it is something we'll never find out but it wasn't anything the company put out there at least however Daewang does wear the mask because of stage anxiety.
