my first art thread here yayyyy

most of the art i do these days is just straightforward illustration, but i've been missing making graphics! i used to really enjoy photo editing/graphic design when i was younger, but drifted away from it for some reason ,,, as for pixel art, i've honestly never really gotten the hang of doing it from scratch, but i really like redrawing/recreating designs in pixels! there's something very satisfying about it to me

i've been making a lot of images on picmix lately, so i've been staring at lots of old web assets-- i've always really liked those old deviantart-style stamps, so i made a couple of my own hehe maybe i'll stick them in my signature once i change my layout...

* i didn't make the frame, or the glare/shine effect on my own-- the glare was extracted from this image that i found on this site, although i realize that's probably not the original source :( i'm pretty sure the frame was sourced from the same site, although i can't find the original anymore...

these ones are a bit older (from last year or so), but here are some pixel art NCT Wish logos (+ a bonus taeyong love theory lol)-- these were made by shrinking the original logo onto a verryyy small canvas, lowering the opacity, and then drawing pixels on an upper layer :) it's simple enough, but could get tricky if the original image isn't available in high-resolution, as was the case with the "cupid society" and "finding psyche" ones.

finallyyyy done with this one, it's been giving me a headache for ages this is a recreation of a design featured on a piece of xdiz concert merch-- it was super tricky since the original design is already warped from being knit, plus there are no high-quality photos of it online T_T i started out trying to make it as accurate as possible, but by the end the original pattern sort of just became a suggestion... i'm just glad i don't have to think about this anymore lol. maybe i'll put it onto a piece of clothing or some such if i ever get into cross stitch someday

i also made a pixel beautiful mind logo to go with :) my first time animating this kind of shine effect-- animation is forever a pain in the ass for me, but i think it turned out well :P

i know i said i wasn't very confident doing pixel art from scratch, but i finally gave it another shot!! pixel chibis of chuu and jinsoul in their signature loona outfits, i think they came out quite cute

these are the last times i tried pixeling these two-- according to the file data, they're from february 2022 the new ones are half the size of these, which is interesting lol. the biggest pitfall for me when it comes to spritework has always been how unintuitive it feels to shrink down/omit details (also why i've never been great at drawing chibis, but look at me doing both in one project ), which i think you can definitely see me struggling with here

I odnt remember if I asked before but how did you do the animation for the first one?

hellooo! it's a bit of a tedious process, but i tried to explain it as concisely as i could 🥲 basically, it's just a process of combining repeated "bounce" animations one frame out-of-sync with one another, to make it look as though elements in a row are moving in a wave.

the bounce animation is as follows:

played at 10 FPS, the animation looks like this (* the starting position actually plays for 5 frames here, to give the animation some time to "rest" after it has completed the bounce)

to get the "wave" effect, you just need to repeat that animation one frame out-of-sync with the element that came before it. played at 15 FPS, you get something like this:

frame-by-frame, it's like this:

it can be a little confusing and time-consuming, especially if you have a lot of elements-- i'm sure there are more efficient ways to do this, but it's just how i do it (i'm definitely not an animation expert! )

i create the frames in firealpaca, and use ezgif to animate them! (although the original animation you quoted was made in ibis paint, so the program doesn't matter too much)

i really hope i explained it well, pls let me know if i can clarify or help in any other way

within three minutes of searching i found a site that generates the entire thing automatically although i suppose the frame-by-frame method is useful if you want more control over the elements themselves, like having multiple colors, or custom designs?
