The funny thing is "game theory" actually came to my mind but I my mind didn't make the gay connection

It just fell out of your algorithm. A few years back, MatPat retired. He was famous enough, and it was getting to be too much work and too exhausting, and he wanted to spend more time with his family, especially his wife Stephanie and his young son Oliver. So, slowly, over the course of years, he sold the company to a corporation to oversee it, and chose new hosts for each theory channel (Game Theory, Film Theory, Food Theory and Style Theory). He made episodes with each new hosts to slowly ease them into the spotlight and get the viewers used to the new hosts.

Nowadays, he is basically fully retired from the channel, and even sold his iconic red leather jacket at an auction on livestream, and donated the profit he made selling it. He did make brief cameos in both Five Night's At Freddy's movies. He also will occasionally help write the script for some videos, but it's only parts of the script, not the entire script, and not the entire process (including recording, editing, creating thumbnails, ect), so it's less work for him. So, I guess he isn't fully retired in the traditional sense. He is still the same MatPat and still goes off on random side quests in life that are enjoyable for him. He just isn't in a public facing role in any of the Theory channels, and hasn't been for years, and it was his decision to step down, as far as I know and what he has said about it.

He does have a team. They all get paid money, and each are in charge of different roles. Someone creates his short form content, someone designs multiple thumbnails for each theory, each channel has their own host, a team of multiple people researches each episode, ect. They're even big enough to have an HR department!
