Generally I`m not a big fan of pet snakes.

Many exotic animals are sold as 'pets'. The sellers are only interested in making a profit when trading reptiles and other animals - this is evident, for example, at reptile expos: exotic animals are offered for sale cheaply in tiny plastic boxes and often end up as impulse purchases from uninformed people. At these fairs, reptiles, amphibians, insects and exotic mammals suffer from stress and close proximity to people: sometimes the animals are scared to death just by the look of a person.

Countless reptiles, including snakes, are taken from their natural habitat as wild-caught animals and are often shipped all over the world under conditions that violate animal welfare. Up to 72% of sensitive reptiles die due to stress, lack of care or transport-related injuries before they reach the market.

In captivity, many reptiles often show unusual or even stereotypical behavior that indicates fear and/or stress.
This includes, for example, constantly “running up” the glass walls of the terrarium – because in nature there are no transparent boundaries. In the vast majority of cases, reptiles' discomfort, illness and pain cannot be seen: the animals suffer in silence. If owners do not recognize illnesses at all,
If treatments are started too late or there is no expert reptile veterinarian nearby, many of them die prematurely.

According to a veterinary case study of deceased reptiles, 51% of the animals examined suffered from diseases caused by incorrect husbandry: If temperatures and humidity are not optimal or if terrariums are not cleaned properly, fungal infestation can occur. Parasites are also widespread in reptiles. But reptiles can also get very old - so if they don't die due to the serious husbandry errors that usually occur, they will have a miserable existence in small terrariums for decades: it is simply not possible to provide a natural environment that meets the animals' specific needs.

Snakes are wild animals that can never be kept in captivity in a species-appropriate manner. Owners assume responsibility for the most species-appropriate care, safety and health of the animal. Keeping exotic animals requires extensive knowledge and experience.
Snakes should only be taken over by people with appropriate specialist knowledge from the animal shelter or animal protection.

My parents live in Australia, where they have to have a license and have had one for 8 years. They have lots of experience!!!

this doesnt make it not a wild animal though. for example, would you buy a tiger as a pet just because it wasnt caught in the wild?
it will always remain a wild animal no matter what. even if they have a licence, what are the conditions breeders have to have to get one?
what kind of animal protection law would support that? and at the end of the day, licences can be brought and you wouldnt know.

dont support breeders. support animal shelters. if you find a snake in an animal shelter and can make sure you can support it properly,
