i always find the idea of kpop idols dating and marrying to be so genuinely beautiful and heartwarming. it sucks that kpop idols have genuinely crazy toxic fans and parasocial who won't allow their kpop idol to be happy with their partners, non celebrity or celebrity. a lot of you guys may not know this, but a LOT of kpop idols are dating or are probably married behind the scenes, and they PROBABLY have kids or not. the reason why relations can get revealed is if dispatch gets involved, random onlookers taking unwarranted photos, or by other means.

i've noticed that some kpop idols from the 2nd and 3rd gen have came out and announced they were in relationships with each other or announcing marriages, not a LOT but we have some who are slowly stepping out to say so. i found out a few days ago that taecyeon from 2pm had been dating his non celebrity girlfriend for 10 years, and recently married to her. it was a happy moment right? but a crazy person went to the same luxury hotel where the wedding was being held, got a room in the same hotel and took a picture of the wedding from above, completely exposing taecyeon's wife face to the public, making his efforts of 10 years be in vain. toxic fans will always find a way to make an idol's most happiest moment of their entire life be ruined by hidden cameras and stuff like that. i think a lot of toxic fans and sasaengs know about this stuff before the wider public, they usually bribe employees a huge wad of cash for private info and easier ways to get a better viewing access to weddings and other events. it's so sad, especially since i would love to see little pics and clips of kpop idols at weddings enjoying the things that'll make their fanbase and other people happy. like the bride and groom cutting their first cake slice, sharing their first kiss after their vows are done, their first dance together and etc. it sucks that we can't see moments like these because of how insane these parasocial fans are. i know we get leaked photos, like with chen's wedding which we were clearly not meant to see

i think another example of sasaengs being crazy is jungkook's sasaengs. when jungkook came back from military service, a lot of people were happy of course, but an adult sasaeng fan had attempted to break into his home and tried to guess the key code to his door for hours, it wasn't until a neighbor saw their suspicious behavior that they called the cops on them. now i'm getting a little off topic here, but jungkook is a grown man who has met lots of celebrity women and non celebrity women during all of these years as a kpop idol, it's likely that the bts members, or a lot of 2nd and 3rd gen idols are in relationships or marriages and it's even more likely that jungkook had a female friend or a girlfriend in his house while he was away. i mean, it's VERY possible, but either way, these people are so crazy.

i think when it comes to idols dating non celebrities, media tricks fans into thinking it's a regular person who's an elementary school teacher or a person working a low wage job for example. this is of k-pop's parasocial marketing tactic as this is not always the case. when it says "non celebrity" they are referring to wealthy and elite NON celebrity people, such as high earning doctors, surgeons, artists, business moguls, and etc. people within an idol's elite social circle, a lot of these idols usually meet these wealthy individuals through the same places. a lot of these idols go to expensive, luxurious lounges, VIP art galleries, and even within those expensive gated neighborhoods where only the rich and wealthy live in. that's not to say it's impossible for these top idols to date non wealthy people, but it comes to down luck and being in the right place at the right time

i feel like soon, we're going to get a year dubbed something like "the year of idol couples" where many idols come out saying they're in relationships with other celebrities or non celebrity people. imagine the entire year, every few times during each month, we get a lot of idols just confirming relationships/marriages. i think the community would LOSE it, both in a happy and crazy way.

there are consequences such as their fans having an issue with such - the issue is not whether those fans are right or wrong since in most situations the fans are wrong but there will be backlash and thus the idol has to weigh up the pros and cons of dating

the issue also depends on said idol and how much they've been in the industry and how popular/successful they are

like if any of BP/twice suddenly announce dating news it's not as much of an issue since they are well established and successful idols who have "earned their right to date" (I couldn't think of an more apt phrasing...)
but if an idol such as someone from an up and coming (or even nugu group) say Rescene were to date you bet your bottom dollar there will be issues

in terms of money - yes the company or the idols themselves should have bodyguards to protect them from weird people such as sasaengs and it is very much those sasaengs' fault but one also has to keep in mind that it is often those "weirder and crazier" fans that spend the most on their idols

oh and yeah i get what you mean. but to add on, it also depends on the idol or person those idols are dating right? like you mentioned blackpink or twice members as examples. if any of these girls happened to be dating another popular male idol, then it'll be total carnage and hatred put onto that female idol for stealing their oppas. but lemme put it like this: If the twice or blackpink members came out that they were dating non celebrities, sasaengs wouldn't really bat an eye and wouldn't go through hell and back just to uncover that person's identity since they're male. but if an male idol came out that he was dating an non celebrity, then sasaengs would try everything in their power to uncover their identities. it's a double standard. generally, boy groups typically have larger, fiercely loyal and dedicated fanbases whilst girl groups mainly rely on the general public, but some ggs have proven to have massive fanbases but you know what i mean

The problem I think is that the economical viability of the industry hinges on said parasocial relationships to a fairly large degree and while some well-established groups could do well without it it's hard to break into the scene and establish yourself without it. Just like how Sasaengs prey on idols there are the music labels encouraging the behaviour to prey on the Saesengs loneliness in a continuous cycle of predation and as an idol it's something you just have to accept when signing that dotted line or roll the dice on your own. Becoming an idol is a fast-track to fame, almost guaranteed in an established label and that comes at a price.

I'm not agreeing with or justifying it but I do think the industry can't survive without it. Most idols understand this and it's a sacrifice they choose to make, most of them will even have signed a contract not to date within a certain timeframe and there's the understanding what will happen when you date past that.

It is unfortunate because I personally just want the people I care about to be happy but I also think the situation comes with a couple of benefits even if it's overall negative - benefits like protection, we all see what happens to western celebrities (especially child actors) when they have too much money and status with total freedom, I know "shame" is considered an ugly word but it isn't, a bit of shame can keep you in line, help you stay humble and grateful.

And this might be controversial but I also think not dating too much might be good for the soul (not literally, but your character) because think about it, you're maybe 17 and horomonal - constantly surrounded by the most attractive people your age in the whole world and it would be so easy for everything to spiral out of control if you didn't have something to hold you back. The price of dating ensures that when you do it's worth paying for.

I don't know if I'm making any sense and i'll reiterate that I personally only want the people I care about to be happy but I do tend to think of things from opposing perspectives and try to garner an objective view and I think we've been too conditioned into thinking everyone has to be completely free in everything but without restrictions we have no structure and that is harmful.

Anyway, I'm weering off into more general territory - I'm mostly referring to younger idols here, I think once you hit a certain age and more importantly have reached a certain level of maturity and experience within the idol setting it makes less and less sense to restrict idols from dating but I think most fans are actually onboard with that, for instance I rarely hear any negativity surrounding Twice's members relationships, except for Momo and Heechul but that was about more than just her dating - guy was 36 (coincidentally so am I) and she was 23 which is gross, imo, and he was sleazing on other young girls at the same time. Also Tiffany (of SNSD) announced her marriage recently and I saw nothing but congratulations! Granted I tend to try and stay away from known dens of toxicity but I do think most fans are quite reasonable but as they say, haters are a vocal minority - negativity is louder and stands out as a sore thumb which skews perception of what the overall fanbase is actually like.

Age really has little to do with maturity, some of the most immature people I've known are in their 40s or 50s now. Of course the older you get the more inclined you are towards maturity but it's far from a given.
