Why does it feel like all the cool sports require more money/equipment? (1 Viewer)

For example, take every form of gymnastics, ice skating, diving, and so on. All require pretty specific equipment, gyms/rinks, and so on. Now compare that to something I find super boring (American football). All you really need is a ball, and maybe a helmet, and pads if you’re really going for it. I make do with rhythmic gymnastics as best as I can by doing stuff outside, but there’s still huge limitations like needing flat areas and absolutely no wind for the ribbon to work and those things. Unfair

The coolest sport to me is MMA, all you need is ya fists. And legs.. and knees.. and elbows..

Maybe some 4 ounce gloves if you want to go all out.

I think I do a good enough job injuring myself on my own, not sure I want to dare adding another person into the mix

I respect swimming, but it’s not a sport I’d particularly want to peruse myself I actually grew up by a lake so it’s definitely something I’ve been exposed to, and I do still like swimming sometimes

It definitely has things in common, though it’s not technically considered gymnastics. And it’s just that throwing and catching a ball while doing gymnastics is part of rhythmic gymnastics, which is definitely closer to basketball than anything artistic gymnastics has

Capitalism and class structure. Sports are surprisingly gatekept by income, some sports like football (or soccer for the Americans) are considered low-income sports unless you make it big while sports like tennis, swimming or like you said ice skating are considered higher value sports... I don't know why but it's a real thing.

Yep! The groups have one routine with 5 of the same apparatus (like 5 ribbons) and 5 mixed apparatus (like 3 clubs and 2 hoops). The groups version is just insanely cool, and also really creative
