Europe went through an Egypt craze in the 1800s-1900s. Some popular activities at the time were mummy unrollings, grinding mummies for paint, and grinding mummies for medication. These activities were so popular that people would make counterfeit “mummies” to sell to Europeans (usually using robbed corpses).

Insanity. The things people did for “entertainment” back then.

Definitely both. This is around the same time they began to be able to decipher hieroglyphics, and that plus other things found in Egypt then attracted a lot of interest for Europeans. And of course, morbid curiosity was prevalent at all points in history, hence stuff like the colosseum, public executions, etc. It’s good that in the modern day at least we have films and stuff to get that out of our system without actually watching someone be murdered

Exactly, instead of actively feeding off of real people being murdered or executed we've evolved to watching real people reenact murder or execution for fun and relaxation ahahaha.

People say evolution is slow, but what if it's so slow it barely moves at all
