Orca can hunt moose (2 Viewers)

Now, I’m not saying it’s a common thing. Their environments don’t overlap much so they usually don’t have the opportunity, even if they wanted to. But there has been at least one documented case where it has happened. Moose can swim, and will at times in order to get food on islands or to escape land predators. In the northwest of North America, this can put them in the same environment as orcas, and said orcas may consider them to be a tasty treat. The first documented case of this happening is from 1992, where a pod of orcas went after a pair of moose. One of the moose was eaten. The other escaped the orcas but ended up drowning in a kelp patch after.

It deepens the question as to why we seem to be the only thing safe on earth from an orca. A moose is also such an odd diet to go for considering it's literally a land animal and the taste compared to it's sea morsels surely must be so different

really interesting, just the last days I was watching some orca documentaries on youtube, one was on the same question you asked, but there was no answer

the other was about another animal they don't try to hunt.. sperm wahles

Same here, the one I watched first was about why orca's don't seem to want to kill or eat us. And after that one I noticed another video popping up about the only animal orca's don't mess with being spermwhales. So I think we may have gotten the same recommendations of YT

They were indeed, like I never thought about it how we seemed to be safe from them. I remember not too long ago on the news how they attacked boats in Southern Europe, then as soon it would sink they simply just peacefully swim off again like nothing happened like playful sea puppies

Maybe they think humans taste really really bad though some humans have been killed by them in captivity so maybe not. Apparently they do actually pass down food preferences from mother to offspring, which is interesting

Yeah, I wouldn't want to taste a human too our blood alone is already yuck. The video I watched did say back in the 70s one surfer was bitten by an orca, but the water was very murky and the orca bit and instantly let go and swam off after it. The one in captivity had most likely gone insane too after 30 years since they live in packs normally, and the poor thing using sonar in basically a tub hearing it reflect straight back at him for 30 years must have done a number on him too.

There is a theory out there that they may know what we are capable of. Since back in the olden days humanity would slaughter whales, orcas and the theory is that the old matriarchs (who can live up to 80yrs) could have passed it down to the newer generation what humans did.

yeah.. I think that was also mentioned in one of the videos, that the ones doing it are probably really young and just enjoy playing with the rudder until it breaks and then go away
