I've gotten into painting my nails lately, and I'm trying to learn how to use the magnetic polish better.

crocheting... but with the emphasis on trying.

i know (and i'm pretty good at it) how to do macrame and even how to make bags out of a piece of plastic and a string. so i thought it would be fun to get into the most mainstream type of handmade crafts which would allow me to follow some fun tutorials and buy some extremely adorable "crochet your own something" kits available in stores near me. but currently i'm in the "can't even get past the first step" where even the easiest tutorial videos are not helping me as i can't even get past the first chain because the yarn keeps falling off my hook so i'm in a process of finding the right tutorial and looking at reddit posts which express the same type of frustration that i have so that i know that i'm not alone in this

So many kits are so unnecessarily complicated, or assume a higher level of basic understanding and therefore skip steps, or have really long videos, so it's hard to figure out which point in the two hour video you need to refresh your understanding when you get lost.

If I knew you locally I'd offer to do a craft night and help walk through it. But barring that, I'd recommend the Woobles' tutorials. They literally start with "here's how you hold it." They also have a free pattern (how to make a baby chick) and a crochet tutorials page, if you prefer reading instead of watching steps.

I was just about to say if you're interested in crocheting then @centen is the best person to talk to about it...
HOWEVER and this is a big HOWEVER - be careful if she recommends any particular pieces or items to crochet (aka murder dolls)

Oh but I also remembered that there was a specific gymnastics skill I’ve been trying to teach myself, though I haven’t quite gotten it down yet It’s this skill, but on a floor instead of a beam for obvious reasons.

guitar! the one i have was actually purchased by my brother a loong time ago, but he never played it, which means i get to mess with it now progress is slow for me since i only practice when i have spare time, but it's fun lol. i haven't played music since i was in middle school, so it's been a very humbling experience...

is it an acoustic or electric? i play my acoustic much more than electric so i'll be more help with that lol

also depends what kinda music you wanna learn cause i'm most familiar with metal/post-hardcore and... CCM

but i would say don't ignore music theory entirely... you just don't have to go super deep into it (cause i know it SUCKS). i'm entirely self taught but over time i learned that it's helpful to learn stuff like modal scales (but that's more helpful on bass tbh) or the number system. but honestly you could also ignore all that if you're just learning for fun, it's just up to you. you can still be a great musician without knowing a lick of music theory!

and don't just stick to chord shapes, you should familiarize yourself with tabs, it just adds more variety and depth into your playing + they're super simple to read

i can probably answer more questions once i know ur specifics

it's an acoustic! i'm mostly learning for fun, cuz the one i have was just collecting dust anyway lool i'm still quite a ways from learning to play full songs, but i'll definitely keep learning tabs in mind when i reach that point 🫡 music theory has always just gone in one ear and out the other for me, but i'll see if i can look into into trying to get some basic concepts down at least
