TV What kdramas would you recommend? (1 Viewer)

[Ahsoka]

I'm looking for a kdrama to watch, but Im very picky with what kinds of shows I like. Romance ones bore me, ones completely about people bickering bore me, and sweet soft ones bore me. I want something with limited, if any, romance (unless its lgbt because thats completely different), lots of action, and preferably characters that actually develop through the season (though I know thats a hard one). Does anyone have any recs?

[Jungkook]

If you haven't watched them already
Fight my way and while you were sleeping are really great ^^

I watched Fight for my Way, it was pretty good except i started skipping the love scenes towards the end because they were ridiculous. I havent seen you were sleeping yet though

[SiggyStan]

I too would like to see some recs. The only ones I've been exposed to were the ones my lady friends were watching (they don't have the best taste in television and the show they were watching was easier to read than a book). Hopefully I can pick up some Korean along the way

It's while you were sleeping lol

I made a typo

You just rejected 98% of K-dramas

My Love From Another Star and Goblin have good action scenes but they are centered around romance so I don't know how you'd like it.

Liar Game (2014)

Genre: Psychological Thriller

Setup: A naive young girl struggling to pay off her missing father's debt to to loan sharks becomes embroiled in a mysterious psychological survival game show where she partners with a mysterious genius former professor who went to prison for murder.

Cast: Lee Sang Yoon, Kim So Eun, Shin Sung Rok, Jo Jae Yun

Comment: Exciting and mysterious, this psychological thriller is both enthralling and dynamic. Kim So Eun is beautiful and endearing as the innocent female lead. Lee Sang Yoon excels as the pragmatic and cynical male lead. Both leads pair well together and despite their being no loveline within the show, enjoy a great chemistry together as partners of their situation. Shin Sung Rok plays the dark and charismatic antagonist and is a highlight of the show. Jo Jae Yun as the lovable loan shark is endearing in his fatherly affection for Kim So Eun. Liar Game is an exciting drama that leaves you at the edge of your seat and at times touches your heart. In my top 5 favorite dramas of all time and I believe an underrated one. I highly recommend it.

Note:. You say you want lots of action.

If you mean lots of fighting and guns and explosions. This has little in the way of that.

But it has tons of action in the way of suspensful and thrilling scenarios and events.

Inspiring Generation (AKA Age Of Feeling) (2014)

Genre: Period Drama / Action (Martial Arts)

Set-Up: A young Korean fighter from meager origins rises up to protect his family and people from powerful enemies during 1930s occupied Korea.

Cast: Kim Hyun-joong, Im Soo-hyang, Jin Se-yeon, Yoon Hyun-Min

Comment: A great period drama that aspires to be more than a simple fighting drama. Dramatic, tense and exciting, moving and romantic. This remains one of my all-time favorite dramas. Kim Hyun-joong is great as the stoic yet principled hero. Im Soo-hyang gives the best femme-fatale performance I've ever seen in any Korean drama ever. Sexy, dangerous and dynamic, she is absolutely exceptional. The best performance in the show bar none. Jin Se-yeon shines as the pure and devoted romantic interest. Features a sprawling supporting cast that manages to assemble some of the most memorable characters of any drama I've watched. Overall great production values and devotion to depicting the period. Also features an excellent original score. I highly recommend it.

NOTE:

This does have romance in it. But it's so packed with amazing action and plot heavy period stories that I can't help but recommend it. It is primarily an action fighting period piece however, not a romance. So you could, skip or tune out the romance elements (though I'd scream sacrilege) if you wanted lol.

[Darkseid]

Watch Arthdal Chronicles. 12 episodes are done, the final 6 will drop in September. You won't regret it
There's some romance but it's not the main focus at all.

Other than that, here are the best 3 dramas of all time you should watch:

1. Reply 1988- doesn't have action, but character development is A+.
2. Signal- Police procedural, mystery, some time travel stuff kinda. Excellent anyway.
3. Tunnel- Serial killer drama.

[potato]

I would recommend:

- Sky Castle: you won't regret watching this. The first episode feels a bit boring but after the end of the first episode, you can't stop.
It's a satirircal tragedy of the school system in Korea and the parents. It involves the elite of Korea all aiming to get their child into the top university.

- Healer: It involves a bit of Romance but I found the plot very interesting.
It's about a man who is a night courier who wants to discover more about his past so he joins a small tabloid company. It involves corruptions and journalism and it's filled with interesting twists and turns

- School 2013: No romance at all. Great plot and it's my favourite School series.
The plot is difficult to explain but it's centred around two boys - one of them is class president and the other is a transfer student who has rumors of being a bully.

- Your Honor: I don't know why I found this one so good. It also has a bit of romance but nothing too love-dovey.
It's about 2 twins - one is a criminal and one is a judge. The judge twin is kidnapped and the criminal twin takes his place. It's very gripping and the criminal twin's personality really holds everything. The female lead is also strong and she isn't weak like most femal leads.

Ongoing dramas:

- Hotel Del Luna: It has 4 episodes out and it has a fantasy theme. I'm suspecting quite a bit of romance but the storyline is quite good.
The Hotel Del Luna, located in Seoul, is not like any other hotel: its clients are all ghosts. Jang Man-wol, stuck in the hotel for the past millennium, meets Goo Chan-seong, the new manager.

One of my favorites.

Lol I know, that's why I made this thread. If I tried to find kdramas myself I'm pretty sure I'd hate 98% of the ones I found and I didn't want to put myself through that.

Try City Hunter or Iris lots of action

City hunter: Lee Yoon Sung is a talented MIT-graduate who works on the international communications team in the Blue House. He plans revenge on five politicians who caused his father's death with his surrogate father Lee Jin Pyo and eventually becomes a "City Hunter".

IRIS: Kim Hyun Joon and Jin Sa Woo are best friends who were brought into a top secret organization known as NSS by analyst Choi Seung Hee and Park Sang Hyun. Hyun Joon and Sa Woo both fall in love with Seung Hee when she first profiles them. Their lives are changed forever when Hyun Joon is given a solo mission in Hungary. Hyun Joon later tries to find out who set him up and to figure out what IRIS is and wants.

*IRIS has a part 2

It is time to plunge myself into Korean culture with all of these recommendations. Except for Liar's Game, unless the changed a bunch of stuff. I believe, from the title and the premise, that it is based off of a cult manga that I read some of a few years ago.
