Start with "Hey man, good morning" and work your way from there. Listen, straight guys are super easy to figure out. Find some common ground and then build a conversation off that common ground.

If it feels awkward talking about things randomly or out of the blue, why don't you start with work related questions? Like how long he's been working for or why he chose to work there. The conversation will probably naturally flow into more non-work related question and you might grow closer.

Like goyo and kuro said, you shouldn't undermine yourself. You're a super fun and nice guy and I'm sure the cute guy at work will like you and you will become friends (or something more). It would be a loss for him to not to grow closer to you.

Oh I remember you talking about this one of the times. Well... I'm not the best at small talk, but talking about what the other person enjoys and what they did for the day is always a good start like "How's your day been" and then listen carefully cause you can easily get a follow up from most things they say cause people like to talk about themselves. Unless he says "It's been good" you're gonna get through to smn

In the situation he does... it would be impolite of him to ask the same. If he doesn't... well then you gotta try smn else like "Man, we signed up for a really long job with this one"
