TV Help A Drama Newbie? (1 Viewer)

My friend has dragged me into the world of kramas after recommending Goblin to me and now I'm looking for more good shows to watch! I like psychological, thriller, horror, fantasy, and mystery while shows that are mainly comedy or romance I tend to be very picky on. I'd also prefer them to be on Viki but it must at least be able to be legally steamed somewhere! Thank you for any recs :D

Liar Game (2014)

Genre: Psychological Thriller

Setup: A naive young girl struggling to pay off her missing father's debt to to loan sharks becomes embroiled in a mysterious psychological survival game show where she partners with a mysterious genius former professor who went to prison for murder.

Cast: Lee Sang Yoon, Kim So Eun, Shin Sung Rok, Jo Jae Yun

Comment: Exciting and mysterious, this psychological thriller is both enthralling and dynamic. Kim So Eun is beautiful and endearing as the innocent female lead. Lee Sang Yoon excels as the pragmatic and cynical male lead. Both leads pair well together and despite their being no loveline within the show, enjoy a great chemistry together as partners of their situation. Shin Sung Rok plays the dark and charismatic antagonist and is a highlight of the show. Jo Jae Yun as the lovable loan shark is endearing in his fatherly affection for Kim So Eun. Liar Game is an exciting drama that leaves you at the edge of your seat and at times touches your heart. In my top 5 favorite dramas of all time and I believe an underrated one. I highly recommend it.

I've been into kdramas for about 12 years now and I never get tired of them.

Even hooked my mother on them haha.

I Can Hear Your Voice (2014)

Genre: Fantasy Romantic Legal Thriller (Noona romance)

Setup: A defense lawyer who is haunted by the events of her childhood meets a mysterious young man who can hear her thoughts.

Cast: Lee Bo Young, Lee Jong Suk, Yoon Sang Hyun, Lee Da Hee, Jung Woong In

Comment:

The Noona Romance To End All Noona Romances. A wonderful combination of rom-com and cohabitation hijinks mixed with coming of age themes, career aspirations, murder plots, social hierarchy and legal drama. Hilarious, romantic, touching, and thrilling. Lee Bo Young is wonderful as the late-20s early 30s aged lawyer. Beautiful, funny, and strong, Bo Young is the highlight of the show and her role here is one of my favorite female lead roles of all time. Lee Jong Suk asserts his trademark charm in his first starring role. His boyish pretty boy looks and certain assured charm come out wonderfully here and underline why Jong Suk has become such a big star (I'm a huge fan haha). Yoon Sang Hyun gives one of the most endearing and funny performances of any second lead I've ever seen. He is loveable and amazing. Lee Da Hee gives one of my all time favorite performances as the second female lead. Icy, sexy and manipulative, she is a stand out. Jung Woong In is brilliant as the dynamic and dangerous antagonist and his villain is one of my favorites of any K-drama ever. Packed with amazing characters, romance, humor, danger and touching sentiment, this drama is one of the best I've ever seen (and one of my favorites). Highly recommended.

New EDIT:. I copied this from one of my other posts I make about kdramas. I wanted to note that despite me playing up the romance in my above description, it's very much a thriller with serial murder as a central plotline. So it's not really a fluffy romance. It just has some elements of a loveline.

Yes! Technically it's a remake of the Japanese drama that was adapted from the manga. But yes!

since you're new to kdramas, i'd recommend w - two worlds. it's a fantasy drama about a girl who's a daughter of a popular webtoon author. one day, after her father suddenly disappears, she gets pulled in through his monitor to a different dimension by a man who turns out to be the main character of that webtoon.
another one i think you might enjoy is he is psychometric. it's about a guy with abilities to read other people's memories due to a head injury from a large apartment building arson which he survived as a child and a girl whose father has been framed for the same arson where the male lead got the injury. then they sort of team up to solve the case and exonerate her father.
both dramas have some romance in it, but it's not really the main point of the plot.
