Going last can be prestigious or a bad thing in both situations since going last especially in the case of an award show you can get a scenario where say there are 6 performances and if the 5th performance is just like the perfect performance, you now have to follow that.

We knew they were trying to start fanwars since the beginning, like they did when Bom couldn't recognize OMG but at the end most of us didn't took the bait and the interactions between Bom and OMG are among the best of the show.

It was kinda obvious when the male MC was trying to pit them against each other, like when the groups had to say who performed under them, etc and when the first preliminary had groups saying that OMG had performed under them, instead of getting mad, Hyojung cried and instead everyone was feeling for her and OMG and was also funny.
There were also the Jimin interactions with the male MC and that turned out to be hilarious instead of hating.
We also had the vocal group choosing who their partner was going to be and although they probably expected to fight about who they wanted to team up with, it was more fun than anything when they had eventually chosen their partners.
So, as soon as Mnet realized they couldn't make the girls go against each other, they then immediately changed to the complete opposite.
Instead of wars between girls, we got love between girls.
