News Kyla Shares She's Okay after School Shooting occurred at her High School (1 Viewer)

Former PRISTIN member Kyla has shared that she is okay following a shooting at her high school.

On November 14, a shooting took place at a high school in Santa Clarita, California. It has been reported that there are at least five victims, with three students described as being in critical condition. The suspect is currently in custody and being treated at a hospital.

Kyla wrote on Twitter, “My school had a school shooter today. The one thing I was most afraid of when I went back to public school happened. I am okay and all of my friends are safe. My heart goes out to all of the injured students. I pray that they are safe.”

Painting is the one thing that's helped me cope with what happened today. It still hasn't registered yet and every time I think about what's happened I cry. I'm at a loss for words. We always think "oh this will never happen to me" but then it did.

It sucks that we even have to have training on what to do in situations like these but its saved so many lives. Unfortunately we lost two wonderful children today and I don't think anyone will be the same. I don't think anyone will be able to look at our school the same.

I hope there is change. I hope that we are more aware of our peers around us and help them before these situations arise again. It all feels so surreal. Please stay safe everyone. It's a scary world out there.

I was like how old is she that she feared this happening in school. Then I had an oh moment realizing just how long this has been going on in America. Especially with how many shootings we've had these last few years. Seriously America has screwed something up hard in it's schools and just blaming the usual suspect (example:guns and games) isn't helping solve the issue.

People will start not going to school as they'll be too scared to go.

It's not only guns that are the issue, guns are the easiest to blame. I think a huge chunk is how schools (and parents) deal with bullying. Heck I think sometimes schools make bullying worse by trying to prevent it. You won't believe how much bullying does play a role in school shootings. News and families are quick to cover up the fact kids killed and/or injured possibly bullied the attacker. It happened pretty quickly with Columbine. They talked about bulling the boys experienced. Now no one really touches on the fact these kids where bullied. I personally know someone who never watched TV, never played games, never got a hold of guns but came close to causing a mass stabbing at a school because years of bullying. Add on the fact that teachers that where supposed to be helping where adding gas to the fire. This person also had abuse and neglect going on at home.

Long story short it's more then one factor. If not guns, then kids will stab, or heck make at home bombs it's not hard. What we need is a resource kids can turn to that will be confidential and provide mental health for these kids BEFORE things reach that point.

Heck mental health period that needs to be made available in this country. We have it, it's there, but it's one of the most expensive things to try to afford.

Back to gun laws, personally I think anyone with a close relation that has a severe mental issue that makes them a threat I do not think they should be allowed to own guns unless it can be verified that they are secured in a place that cannot be accessed. Also no guns in homes of mentally unstable and/or violent individuals.

America's problem with guns is we think it's a right not a privilege. We are not thankful for the fact we can own guns so now we treat them so callously.

Its sad that as somebody not from America, American school shootings don’t shock me as much. In the UK we had the shooting at a primary school in Dunblane, and gun laws were promptly put in place. The UK has had one mass shooting since then. Of course America is a much bigger country, but the gun lobby will beat their drums louder and call for more guns in a fight fire with fire kinda rally cry.
