Before starting, I appreciate BTS.

the last decision of the exemption of BTS has been made : there is no way for BTS to be exempted

Nonetheless, I have watched so many people say BTS should be exempted. But the most have never served in the Korean military.

So they have never experienced physically What the national defense is, how important it is

and Why South Korean people are supposed to defend South Korea, giving up their youth and freedom which are more valuable than any money and which you can never buy.

Moreover, The Korean war is not over yet and it seems that the relationship between two Koreas is getting worse

Also, there are never enough soldiers in South Korea. As the population of South Korea is decreasing, the population of Soldiers is also decreasing.

That's why the Korean government is decreasing the range of the exemption. In this situation, how can the government exempt more people than now?

So, in my opinion, Saying BTS should be exempted is nonsense

For me if its really the law of the country then i think they should abide by it, there have been no precedence before this from what i am aware so i don't think they will be given exemption by the government.

No.

They are the current IT-group but before them, there have been other IT-groups who had to serve in the army. Second gen groups also did a lot for popularizing SK (think about the first Hallyu wave: the rest of Asia became interested in SK).
It's the law.
Nontheless, I think they would serve cuz avoiding your enlistment is a no-no for Korean public...

At the end of the day, they don't want exemption and doing so would obliterate their career and reputation within South Korea. Even people who have served but decided to take shortcuts or cause scandals while serving have earn swift backlash or nearly lost their careers

Do I think they deserve it? Honestly yes. South Korea has given exemptions to classical musicians and dancers who have won awards and brought national prestige to the country before. There's no standard or guidelines to go by for modern pop music because of its sudden rise in popularity over the last few decades. SK needs to start somewhere

But again, even if they were exempted, they would turn it down. And probably go down as Gods for doing so...

Im neutral cause athletes and classical musicians get exemptions so why not popstars. In other hand where to put the line between idols and is it fair to common folks. And what comes to BTS, best for them to serve.

Not offense, but You are not a South Korean, let me make it clear
Not every athletes can be exempted. If you want to be exempted as an athletes, you must be recognized and selected as a member of the national team by the nation.

And especially in South Korea, It is very hard to be a member of the national team. And also Not every members of the national team can be exempted.

You must win a medal in the Olympics which is the biggest and oldest competition in the world. Also, The Olympics are held every 4 years.

Also Members of the national team don’t get paid. Also They are controlled and managed by the nation. The nation use them to compete in the Olympics and they volunteer for the nation.

Their first and fundamental purpose and goal is to promote the national glory.

But As a private group made by a private company called BigHit, BTS is pursuing their own private money.

The nation didn’t made It and it isn’t a public group made by the nation. So regardless of the nation, They pursue its money-generated activities.

You realize BTS sell their albums and tickets for its concerts to make their own money, not volunteer for the nation.

So BTS’s first and fundamental purpose and goal is to make their own money not to promote the national glory. Of course BTS is also helpful, But we focus on Their purpose.

I think it is very nonsense to compare members of the national team to a private group.

And let’s talk about the classical musicians. Classical Concours date back the Greeks. It is as old as the Olympics.

In the Classical Concours, players are not judged by their fans nor popularity, but by the objective, specific standards and by their own skills. And Concours are international organization.

but there is nothing like them for BTS.

First of all, Any Grammy or Billboard is not an international organization. And as a flow of culture, anything can change anytime, anywhere in the commercial Music industry.

Besides, the Korean government is decreasing the range of the exemption.
In this situation, BTS shouldn’t be exempted

They can be exempted because for them, tehre are competitons operated by international onganizations named Concours.
The origin of Concours dates bakc to the Greeks and it is as old as the Olympics. The Concours have gradually progressed, making their own philosophy.
And Classicl musicians and dancers are judged by objective and specific standards not by their fame nor popularity nor their fans.

the first reason BTS shouldn't be exempted is that :
As you said, There's no standard or guidelines to go by for modern pop music because of its sudden rise in popularity over the last few decades.
But I am sorry there is nothing the Korean govenment can do. That's why BTS shouldn't be exempted. Because there is nothing can be the objective
and specific standards. Of course BTS have won awards, but those awards were not only from the internatioal organization, but affected by their fans and their popularity.

Secondly, before artists, BTS isn't an individual, but a group that made by a private company.
the reason BigHit made BTS is to make the private money and fame. Of course, I do appriciate BTS. But to be honest, BTS is not the national team.
And Of course, BTS brought national prestige to the country. But if BTS should be exempted just because of that reason, Why can Samsung and other major companies not be exemoted?
For examples, Samsung brings $410billion each year and one of Samsung's groups named 'Samsung Electronics is the best smartphone company in the world. it has shown the world Our astonishing
skills and techologies. With them, it has literally promoted the national glory. But as you know, they have just pursued their own money and fames.
Likewise, BTS is very benefical even more than any other musicians, but they also have pursued their own money and fames.
So without objective and specific standards, their private income-generated activities cannot be the reason to be exempted.

Thirdly, South Korea is still having a war now. there have been a lot of actual battles between Two Koreas. And the relationship is getting worse these days.
One of professors form Harvard Universiy said there is a possiblity that the Korean war could resumes these days. (N. Korea-linked incident could spiral into 2nd Korean War: expert)
Furthermore, there are never enough soldiers and the number of soldiers is also decreasing now. In this situation How can the gov exempt exemot more people than now?
Besided, the government is decreasing the range of the exemption too. So there is nothing the gov can do.

there is nothing more important than the national defense. Thus BTS don't deserve to be exempted.

The funny thing is that it’d probably be in Korea’s best interest to give them exemptions, just from an economic standpoint but the public backlash would be too strong and could risk permanently damaging their brand so no one wants to take the risk.

BTS themselves have never talked about wanting to be exempted. It's mostly fans who want them to be exempted. It's probably best for them to serve and they probably will in the future. Even if they are exempted, BTS will probably refuse to keep their public image.

Not offense, but That doesn't make sense. First of all, South Korea is not relying on BTS nor the tourism. South Korea is relying on major companies .
South Korea has become the 10th world leading power without BTS. And it would be more sense to exempt major companies first.
From the economical view, there is no one more deserve to be exempted than major companies. And here are over 100 groups that can bring more money than BTS. However, they cannot be exempted though they very helpful to South Korean economy.

Besides, It would be more beneficial for the gov just to let every people not serve in the military only from the economical view. However, you know there is nothing more important than the national defense, especially considering the current situation of South Korea.

Thus, BTS must serve in the military not because of the the public backlash but because of so many reasons.

I wish this topic would be dropped by people already since bts has already said they don’t want to be exempt, honestly. It just feels like people are repeatedly beating a dead horse by now. And I don’t mean just here, but rather everywhere.

Regardless of what fans or others think, we should respect what bts wants for themselves. And they want to enlist. I’ll miss them but I’m cool with it.

I don't really have an opinion on it, but they seem to want to go so
I guess Koreans are expected to have a stronger opinion on it, since they're the ones who really understand the importance of enlisting
