Can BIGBANG complete with BTS? (2 Viewers)

Kpop has grown a lot since bigbang promoted the MADE series and perhaps bigbang got left behind along with other legends like snsd but maybe not.

I feel as tho bigbang have a MUCH bigger appeal to non kpop fans I dont think they would be as mocked as bts. And their fandoms dont spread fancams. Bigbang dont even dance so they dont need to.

I personally feel that bigbang can compete, you may say scandal this scandal that. But bigbang has been involved in plenty of scandals in the past gd with marijuana daesung car crash etc and they always came back stronger. They can come back from these scandals. Seungri is in military so he is out of the question obviously but I honestly think if he came back that he could easily join and people would be over his burning sun scandal but he never got much lines in bigbang anyway so wont make much of a difference him out or not.

And their latest song (2018) is this one unprompted track slayed the charts and accumulated 1.8million downloads (and without the mass streaming fandom some other *cough* groups have) pure public dominance.

I think not. Why?
Every group has their "golden days", their peak. Big Bang has had them already, now it's BTS' peak.
It's the cycle of kpop groups. One day, BTS will be past their peak and another group will take over, wether people like it or not.
Also, BB's image is just too damaged, they can't come back from this (also their company has a bad reputation as well).

Internationally? I think they are able to compete with BTS, but only when it comes to areas where kpop isn't very known and only when it comes to new fans (they and Suju brought in a lot of European kpop stans during 2014-2015 and still have quite large fanbases)

It's really bad for kpop how bts has no competitors in any field they only have blackpink who are a gg who don't even promote

You say that but 2018 bb slayed the charts

That was after tops drug scandal and an unprompted song with no mv.

There wasnt any decline from 2012 to 2017 bb weren't really a group that peaked as far as I know.

Yes but don't forget that in 2019, it became clear YG had a corrupt relationship with the police (like them getting rid of those papers when they were under investigation).
Kpop fans looked at BB in 2018 differently then in 2019. In 2018, kpop fans looked up to the group, 2019, only fans look up to them, their reputation they had in 2018 with the gp is gone.

Epik High been there before. Think before BTS came on the scene so don't think this is chalked up to Western push.

That said to be honest I don't think BB can compete with BTS anymore. I think back before sht kept hitting the fan I would say absolutely. Because they where so big is the only reason this whole mess hasn't disbanded them fully. Let us be honest with our selves fans were lost and interest was lost with all the differnt scandles and TBH Seungri had the biggest impact in the downward.

But I don't think Big Bang needs to compete with them per say, they can do their own thing while potentially benefitting from the recent kpop craze. I don't rly see their scandals affecting to their popularity either, other than that Seungri kinda needs to be out of the group- the OT4 versus OT5 can be pretty devastating for the fandom. And like you said, I think they have enough identity of their own and beyond kpop to not get mistaken as just another kpop group.. or BTS

They had a lot of gp support but that's gone, the gp opinion of yg definitely seems to be very low. On top of that I think that dancing is something that's admired a lot by international fans right now so their lack of dancing probably wouldn't help. I just don't see it happening.
As to the fans I think they won't be liked by many newer K-pop fans, especially armys. Unless they've changed drastically their attitudes towards other K-pop groups would probably be enough to bother other fandoms.

Idk really but I'm hoping they can, it's been long and the nostalgia is there... I'm confident that if they come back they'll be great, how great... hard to say but I don't think people just forgot BB and if anything the Seungri scandal made people still think of BB. I for one care little for the fact that Seungri was part of the group, the other guys were the ones i liked more anyway and like I think they had nothing to do with him so, hoping for the best.

You don't know till they comeback whether their support is gone or not for example park bom apparently had all support gone yet her debut was successful.

Scandals and all that havent really affected YG before especially not bigbang so we just have to say we cant know yet.

For me I feel it's a fact anything they drop will top melon.

I think it could go either way but I voted yes because I think in a weird way their age kinda gives them an advantage in America. In a lot of US media, BTS’ success is downplayed because of the demographic of their fan base whereas VIPs are a bit older and I feel like the male:female ratio is a little more even, at least in comparison to most boy groups. I think people forget that BB are suspected to be the biggest selling boy band of all time if solid evidence of their Chinese sales were provided. Not to mention that GD already has established relationships and a mutual respect with other artists in the western industry which given YG’s full backing could result in them having the American breakthrough CL was robbed of...

No, Big Bangs exact problem is that they don’t have a big fandom. If you want to stick in America and actually stay for the long run like bts then you need a big ass fandom to back you up. Artists like Ariana grande, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Beyoncé all have these huge fandoms that buy concert tickets, stream, buy albums, Request for radio play etc. and while Big Bang May have gp appeal, so does bts. I mean bwl probably is the best charting idol song this year, and spring day is still on the charts despite being two years old. . I think that ygs biggest mistakes is never focusing on fandoms, he always thinks that he can just be carried by the gp which totally holds back his groups from becoming more successful in the long run.

I doubt TVXQ would ever need to explore out of Japan considering they’re selling out stadiums with over 90,000 people. And domes with 50,000.
