In Your Opinion What Separates a GOOD Group From a GREAT Group? (1 Viewer)

Basically, what it says in the title.

Personally, it has to be the live performances! Can they actually sing live? Can they command the stage?

A lot of people can look cool in an MV and even a music show stage but can you maintain that standard and those expectations that you've set for yourselves with your fans for a 90+ minutes show? No second takes, no ridiculously loud backing track to drowned out your vocals...

I also think personality and overall chemistry of the group makes a HUGE difference as well but what do you think???

Chemistry from a group creates authenticity and a great atmosphere on stage and also growth as well as presence, of course, separate the legends from the newbies!

That's one of the many reasons I love SHINee and ASTRO ;u;

For me its mostly the Bsides, I hear a lot of great title tracks, but very few groups really have consistently good bsides as well.

OH, def with SHINee I don't know much about ASTRO. But for me this works with Girlsday and EXO.

Most of ASTRO have been training and doing things together as trainees and friends since the majority of them were in middle school and earlier. Moonbin and Rocky practically grew up together in the company.
They're all very close (and it's one of those obvious bonds that they aren't faking or putting on airs).

This is also very true, a lot of kpop b sides can sound like they were made in Garage Band...

Vocal talent alone isn't something I feel that can carry a group to amazingness by itself. They need the full package or a lot of people will likely get bored.

I agree but I think on the flip side there are a TON of kpop groups with really strong dancers but it can be really hard to find one with a really exceptional vocal line...

Honestly, in kpop, I've long accepted that vocals are more of a personal preference thing than anything else. Some people will hate certain vocals and some people will love them. Yes, some are quiet exceptional indeed and deserve to be praised but in the end it all falls back onto the type of concept/music/sound an individual is gonna go for and sometimes it will be a group other individuals think don't sound exceptional yet the group is raved about anyway. KPOP is so heavy on preferences.

True. Music as a whole is subjective so it only makes sense that kpop is the same.

the chemistry between the members tbh. you could have the most talented people in the world in one group but if they dont have good chemistry then i dont think that they would be a great group. it just looks really awkward on stage when the members aren't comfortable with each other.

- Great singles AND bsides. Not one or the other
- When you can tell the group is like a family instead of coworkers
- If they're in a company that doesn't want to control them

good group is if i only like their titles and a great group is when i like a majority of their bsides too... idc about anything else honestly
