I feel like when I see or read about them when only one of them is featured then they're basically interchangable but if you have both fairies and pixies featured in the same media then fairies usually have wings more similar to butterfly wings and they're very pure and innocent, whereas pixies usually have wings more similar to a dragonfly except more pointed and their personalities is a bit more mischievous and prankster
