Edit: Chinese is a tonal language. Words can mean something completely different whenever they are not pronounced correctly. I believe that groups should have a fluent Chinese speaker within them to make Chinese versions of their songs, if they want them to be successful (or they just practice pronunciation a lot beforehand, ya know?). Making Chinese versions of songs is far different than when making English versions of songs.

BTW, I don't mean any shade to BTS!! I'm just using them as an example lol.

Can we just make it a law that groups who don't have at least one fluent Chinese speaking member are not allowed to make Chinese versions of their songs? Somebody brought this up again to me, and I am forever haunted.



Jin's pronunciation was.. ok... but ffs I'm still dying TO THIS DAY. At least they tried? Lol.

The only Chinese versions of K-Pop songs that sound ok are the ones where some of the group members actually speak Chinese! Like, take this for example:


You can tell some of the members have accents, but overall you can still mostly understand it (minus some little things during the rap parts, but still nothing major).

Sorry maybe this only bothers me, but still.

That's like saying no Kpop group can sing in English, if they don't have a member born in an English speaking country.

And, this is different than English. English is a language that can be understood even with heavy accents because it is not a tonal language. Chinese is a tonal language, and meaning can be lost completely when tones aren't pronounced correctly.

Lmao when I was in my first year of Chinese, someone else showed it to our teacher and she thought it was hilarious. She actually did in fact compliment Jin though, saying he was the one who sounded the most decent out of all of them XD.

I just thought it was basic knowledge, lol. The first year I took Chinese, we learned about pinyin so I just thought that was normal. Lmao

my school did it differently lol most of us already did chinese at home so they skipped basic words like 走 and i somehow went without being corrected

I completely agree. It's like, in Mandarin, the word 'Ma' has a different meaning to the word 'Má', so you have to be careful because although they may have the same letters in, it will not have the same meaning.
