There has been articles about similar thing happening in my country. Not only to Chinese people, but East Asians and even South East Asians in general who look like they could be Chinese. Personally I kinda understand if you know there is Chinese tourists around where you are and you might want to be careful, maybe if someone coughs not sit so close in bus etc, like maybe avoiding just tourist areas in general. Can be kinda shitty, but understable for me. In other hand I don't understand at all insulting strangers, bullying people etc. Like there has been even bullying Asian kids in daycare centers and schools here because of this, and someone told to newspaper their mothers friend told to her friend to not meet her anymore.. and that makes no sense you are just being asshole.

Yes, I understand keeping your distance from someone as you would do with anyone who has a cold, but like you said, the insults and abuse is completely uncalled for and are just attacking people who's background is from a nation where it all started from even though it isn't even their fault.

I live in CA I am glad to say anyone, regardless of race, can clear the room with a simple cough. If we are being paranoid we are doing so equally. I'm white as can be and started coughing at the bank and swear half cringed towards the door.

Outbreaks are going to happen and no one race is responsible for the next virus to pop up. Most times these things occur in places with lack of cleanliness and lack of care. Nothing to do with race, everything to do with who's next. Funny thing is blaming one race is just ignoring the other carriers.

Don't blame people, keep clean, cover your cough, and don't be a dick.

Unfortunately, a lot of people has become paranoid (eventhough they do have valid reasons to worry) all over the world. I can talk about my own country (Dominican Republic) where we do have an important chinese community living here and most people are really afraid of even making contact with one, it's honestly so sad because most of them have many years living in the country and rarely travel back to China. I do understand the concerns over the virus, esp. in my country where the Health Ministry is shit but I think this is getting out of hand.

It's like people think that just because it broke out in China it's the people's fault. The reason it spread so far is because of high density, not because the people there just decided to say 'fuck the world we gonna spread this' but that's how they're being treated. I think the government's attempts at quieting the doctor were suspicious but they put their own citizens at risk with that stunt, the citizens are all victims too.

Insults and abuse do not cure the coronavirus, all it shows is the discrimination against Asians. I get you can be cautious if anyone of any race coughs or shows signs of sickness, but deliberately going out of your way to insult and hurt people because of a virus is not only stupid but extremely harmful.
