With their comeback being kinda close (hopefully at least lol), I wanted to rank the songs again (yes I did it before), but this time with the addition of the SAVAGE album, since that wasn't released back when I made the first ranking.
I don't remember all of the last ranking so it's hard to make a comparison, I only know that Under Cover was #1 at the time while Mr.Bass was the lowest out of all.
I felt like taking the different version of 2 of their songs into consideration, as well as the Intro song from their Mad Squad album.
24. The Beginning - Chan & Byeongkwan 2nd OST
Definitely prefer their 1st OST together, this one isn't really that exciting nor do they really showcase their vocal abilities.
23. Do It Like Me - Under Cover Album B-Side
I remember this being much higher on the list, but by now it's just really basic? Glad they didn't end up choosing this as their debut song. It's still fine, especially the high notes at the end but the drop gets repetitive quickly.
22. All I Want Is You - Japanese Debut Single
It's not that this is a bad song. it's just not my type of ballad. I'd consider this one of the many boring ballads that exist. I barely listen to it, just from time to time when I feel like it.
21. 5TAR (Incompletion) - Adventures In Wonderland Album B-Side
It's a nice ballad but it's missing Chan, that's why the other version is way higher. Chan just adds so much to the group as a vocalist, which of course he doesn't do in this one since it's only OT4 version.
20. Holiday - The Mad Squad Album B-Side
One of their few summery songs, but it generally feels kinda bland, like it has been done before a million times by other groups.
Could imagine this more for a short outro song, but giving it a full 3 minutes feels to long.
19. Sincerity - Chan Solo
This song, while showcasing his voice really well, is just another boring ballad.
18. Dessert - Adventure In Wonderland Album B-Side
Same as with Holiday. One of their few summery songs. While I'm in love with the very beginning and the effect they used on the vocals it quickly gets repetitive.
17. Mr.Bass - Under Cover Album B-Side
Hey look! Mr.Bass isn't last anymore! The thing I didn't like about this song before was the mixing of the vocals whenever they said Mr. Bass, but I think by now after listening to it more I've gotten used to it, while I still think it could sound better if it was mixed or even sang differently.
16. Intro: escape - The Mad Squad Album Intro
This is definitely much better with the Choreo video, but it does an amazing job introducing the album and leading into SAVAGE.
15. I Feel So Lucky - English Collab with French DJ HCUE
While this one also gets repetitive quickly, it doesn't bother me as much as it does for Holiday and Dessert.
The beat is just way too catchy to be bothered by how repetitive it actually is.
So shout out to HCUE for being able to do that.
14. Black And Blue - Adventures In Wonderland Album B-Side
This was also previously much higher, I think even in the Top 5. I still like it but over the time it's gotten kinda stale. Always glad to hear it on shuffle tho.
13. Cactus - Debut Song / Adventure in Wonderland Album B-Side
It's still overall one of my favorite debuts in K-Pop, because it used the Hardstyle genre for it's drop which still nobody else has used to this day. (After release, before it there are a few song)
12. SAVAGE - The Mad Squad Album Title
This is an absolute banger. It's got one of the best bridges from last year and the verses and especially Wow's rap is awesome. Donghun and Jun are able to flex their vocal skills as well which is always welcomed. I think this would've been a bit higher if it weren't for the basic drop/chorus instrumental.
11. Maybe - Chan & Byeongkwan 1st OST
IIRC this was even their very first overall OST for the group so it kind of has a special place in my heart. Chan's vocals in here are just so soft and angelic. The melodies they created for their singing parts are really pretty as well. Byongkwan's soft rap is something I never knew I needed as well.
10. Take Me Higher (Incomplete Version) - Adventure In Wonderland Album Title
Same as with 5TAR, it's missing Chan! Complete Version much higher as well.
9. She Is So Perfect - Unreleased Song (Possibly sold to another Artist)
This song is pretty much letting their inner Taemins come out. They created the song and choreo within 5 days to perform on their first Korean concert (iirc) as a surprise for the fans.
You wouldn't even think this song was done within 5 days. There are a few producers/writers that are known for machine gunning out songs (e.g. AKMU's Chanhyuk), you wouldn't think a company with not too much of a budget at the time could get such a perfect song out in such a short amount of time.
From the Instrumentals to the Vocals this song is a straight up bop.
8. If You Heard - Under Cover Album B-Side
This was a surprise release back when it got released. A cute little fan song I thought at that time. I wasn't particular into it back then but by now I love it.
7. 5TAR (Completion) - Adventures In Wonderland Album B-Side (Physical Copy)
This song with the addition of Chan is just beyond beautiful. Especially the part at the end, they released both versions during the times of The Unit, where Chan wasn't active with A.C.E, but UNB. Remembering how much Chan cried during a performance live it just actually hurts my heart every time I listen to it but it's just so darn beautiful. The instrumentals are also just A+***.
6. Slow Dive - The Mad Squad Album B-Side
Now I remember when the album was released I couldn't decide between this or So Sick. It being lower than So Sick is simply because I have listened to it for too much and it kinda got a bit boring at a point. But besides me over-listening to the song, I really hope they release more music like this in the future. I really love that they started to sing in Unison for the chorus in here. definitely need more of it.
5. Where You Are - Chan & Jun 1st OST
Their most recent OST, and let me tell you it's absolutely amazing!
I'm a sucker for these type of OSTs, kinda dark and edgy but full of emotions. Chan's angelic voice and Jun's great high note at the end just ended my life.
4. So Sick - The Mad Squad Album B-Side
This song just played with so many different rhythms and instrumental parts in the verses that I didn't know where the chorus would end up, but similar to Victon's Howling, the chorus just comes so suddenly, unexpected, and not in a "boom loud noise" type of way, but it just flows so well from verse into chorus which is just so rare these days in K-Pop songs. It creates a whole different feeling.
We also got vocalist Wow and he did an outstanding job, his lines are my favorites in the song.
3. Under Cover - Under Cover Album Title
I don't think this needs any explanation. This is one of their most liked titles outside the fandom as well. The way they incorporated the rock and hip-hop style just worked so well together.
And let's not forget Byoeongkwan's legendary outfit.
2. Callin' - 1st Comeback Title / Adventures In Wonderland B-Side
This song still has, hands down, one of the best K-Pop instrumentals of all time. It makes me feel nostalgic but empowered which sounds like a weird combination but it just works.
This is one of the very few songs where I listen to the instrumental version as well.
A.C.E's vocals and rap just supports it so great as well. And then Jun and Donghun just hit those incredible high notes at the end.
I think the most important thing about this song is tho that they only used the Hardstyle drop twice. Once more and it would've turned the song into a horrible mess.
They don't use it to build hype, like a lot of drops and loud instrumentals do. It isn't the main attraction what too many songs try to do these days, having the drop be the main focus of the song and thus over using it, making it a pain to listen to.
(Compare it to SAVAGE, I think SAVAGE would've been much greater if the drop weren't used three times)
1. Take Me Higher (Complete Version) - The Mad Squad Album B-Side
This honestly came as a big surprise to me. But I think the simplest answer why it's #1 is, that they haven't done any other concept and song like this.
Which just makes me long for another concept like this.
They absolutely rocked this kind of old-school r&b vibe and I really hope they somewhat divert from the Under Cover/SAVAGE style for the next comeback because they have to tbh.
You can only gain as much fans as one genre allows. (Speaking about SAVAGE not really hitting the "likeable" button for most people after the greatness that was Under Cover)
And I think changing it to something much more fun and bright like this would help to gain more fans in the long run.
A.C.EI don't remember all of the last ranking so it's hard to make a comparison, I only know that Under Cover was #1 at the time while Mr.Bass was the lowest out of all.
