TVXQ! THE GREATEST BOY GROUP OF ALL TIME!
5. Anime characters are in fact real.
To kick this list off I thought the best place to start would be with Kim Jaejoong. A member so popular that BTS has no answer for this "anime character come to life". Yes that's what was constantly echoed across school hallways, parks, and water coolers of every business in Korea and Japan. Jaejoong was simply a phenomenon. Probably the most popular boy group member of all time. His beautiful voice, his out of this world visuals, and his anime hairstyles and demeanor won over legions of fans young and old across Asia. Even to this day his fanbase continues to grow. Oh did I also mention hes the richest idol ever? When will Jimin, or V, or Rap Monster ever?
4. BTS? I'm Sorry "You Got the Wrong Number So Dont Call Me No More".
Its universally agreed upon that 2008's "Mirotic" is the single best boy group comeback and era of all time. Even to this day there has not been a phenomenon that has topped Mirotic era in Asia. The album itself went on to sell over 600k copies. Making it the first album in Korea to sell over 500k in four years.
3. Three down two to go. We still sold out Nissan no probleMo.
In what's perhaps the most telling fact on this entire list we cant go without mentioning the infamous split of TVXQ in 2010. For those unaware TVXQ has made more money than any kpop group ever. For several years in a row TVXQ alone was making more money as a group than the entirety of the Big 3 combined. Some fans jokingly say theres actually a Big 4 with TVXQ being the biggest in the Big 4. But anyway what happened was Jaejoong, Mickey, and Junsu (the three most popular members) got mad at SM for unfair profit split and then decided to split themselves. In other words...they straight up bounced. They continued as a group under the name JYJ while Changmin and U-Know continued on as TVXQ. And this is where the gap between TVXQ and BTS really starts to widen. Even after losing their three most popular members and enlisting in military TVXQ came back and sold out Nissan Stadium in Japan. Yes you read that right. TVXQ still sells more tickets in Japan alone than BTS does in the entire world. With only 2 MEMBERS!!! This really isn't fair to BTS. What more can they possibly do to stop trailing and eating the dust of The Gods of kpop?
2. YouTube? Social Media? What's that? No thanks we don't need cheat codes.
New kpop fans dont know TVXQ. And theres good reason for that. This was an empire built, established and thrived in an era before YouTube and social media made it easier for today's artists to reach its max audience. In today's era all it takes for a boy group to blow up is one teenage girl posting a fancam titled "OMG asian boy so hot please be my baby daddy oppa" on twitter and a week later they are touring in 500 countries..This was not the case for TVXQ. And that is...
1. Rise Gods of the East. Rise and resurrect kpop for a new generation.
Listen for a second. Do you hear that? Nothing you say? Exactly. This was the kpop scene in 2003. It was dead and buried. After the first gen kpop groups started disbanding fans turned to solo artists as their pop music of choice. Lead by BOA and Rain solo artists were the new flavor and nobody was ready or waiting for the triumphant return of the idol group. Yet that all changed in late 2003 when a new SM boy group debuted with a little song called "Hug". It is a proven FACT that without TVXQ your faves would not exist. They brought the industry back from the dead like they were God Damn DRACULA LALALALA. BTS rise to fame and success was riding the coat tails of B.A.P. and especially EXO. They took the easy route by catching a ride on an already fast moving rocket ship. Meanwhile TVXQ had no such trampoline. They saw there was no road to walk so they got down on their hands and knees and paved their own road. Without anyone's help. A road that has stretched for nearly two decades giving platforms to every single boy group post 2003. That is astronomical. That is legendary. That is unprecedented. THAT is why BTS will never surpass TVXQ. Still don't believe me? Then how bout we ask the Big Hit founder himself.
Bang Shi Hyuk exp "All the members are good looking, all the members have strong vocal ability and performance. Their level is so high. From this point of view, TVXQ will always the only one in the world." Bang Shi Hyuk then added, "I saw TVXQ for the first time at a large video platform . They had just debuted. Everyone had been talking about them and their talents. I saw their performance, then I was shocked."
