Yup,the wet markets where people can buy dog, cat, bat meat and any other creature cruelly killed in those markets are open again. China gov is really acting selfish at this point. They started 2 epidemias/pandemics with those damn markets and now with covid-19 destroying the entire world, they start the markets again?? ‘coronavirus is now a problem other countries have’. I really start to believe in the bioterrorism theory about China creating the virus on purpose

Honestly, I feel more terrible for the animals than the humans at this point. I can now believe the extent of human selfishness and carelessness but those poor animals did not deserve this cruelty at all. It makes me so mad! It honestly makes me want to puke.

well, judging from an anthropology point of view: every food is weird.
In the West, it's normal to eat pork but in Muslim countries, it's frowned upon and we're probably seen as weird too.
Like eating bugs: in the west, people used to eat bugs until the 20th century. Now it's weird but it's normal.
Sushi is weird for Western grandparents but normal and loved by younger generations.

It's awful in multiple ways. In regular meat industry there is rules how you must operate, ofc there is still animals suffering, but at least it's trying to be minimized. Then there is strong hygiene regulations so viruses and bacteria can't spread from animals to animal- and also to humans that much. Even in cattle and chicken farms there is sometimes diseases that spreads, but those places get closed fast and reopened only after it's made sure no animal there has the disease anymore. These wet markets have zero control and oversight.

This is not only problem in China though, I have heard that other countries especially in Asia have these wet markets as well. But it's not safe. The world is so globalized that diseases like Covid-19 spread quickly. We have to remember that devastating diseases like AIDS also began likely from humans eating wild animal with the virus and then it spreading. Can world really afford these pandemics? Are the wet markets worth pandemics like this?

Those are all for different reasons though like pork is to do with religion, bugs are just seen as gross and sushi being weird probably depends on someones knowledge of it like if someone thinks it is only served with raw fish which isn't true but could easily come across as weird since the general rule is raw meat is a no.

For cats and dogs it does come down to morals however take something like bats which are full of diseases, it wouldn't exactly be a bad idea to say "maybe we shouldn't be eating bats" like we're lucky the coronavirus isn't that deadly because if it was anything like the Spanish Flu or Black Plague we'd have been in huge trouble.

I don't think that's late, though. I'm fine with criticizing Chinese govt. for many things, but this one is fully on other countries' complete lack of common sense. If other governments actually started to implement measures at the end of January, situation would have been contained easily. But nope, many countries still don't take the situation seriously, even today, and it's April! Just a few days ago some world leaders called it a hoax. I mean...

I think most theories don't believe that bats were what made people sick. The coronavirus is very similar to bat diseases but it's more likely that it was carried from bats to another host, which then was carried to humans through the intermediate host. Honestly the bigger issue is that animals who have no business living in the same environment are forced to because of deforestation and whatnot, which leads to more of these types of diseases due to the interactions between them. I'm not saying that it wouldnt help to eliminate wild animal trade, but these kinds of things can happen with domestic ones too. Take bird flu, it's highly deadly and lives in poultry. But we wouldn't stop eating it.

Well I'm not saying that the other countries weren't late at finding solutions, but the first cases appeared in China way before they announced them. The doctors tried to announce and they got charged by police... and now I lost all my respect with those damn markets being open again
