Alright, I was waiting to whip this one out finally

I've been so annoyed by people constantly bickering over how some people get more lines in groups and how "eVeRyOnE sHoUlD hAvE eQuAl LiNe DiStRiBuTiOn"
No
that makes no sense in like 90% of groups
Main vocals exists to have more lines than Lead vocals or sub-vocals
Main rappers exist to have more lines than Lead rappers and sub-rappers
Main dancers exist to have more MV/choreography parts to show off their dance
Visuals exist to be a bullshit category for K-netz cause they know that that person has no other talent than being good looking
(Kudos to the members that are both visuals and other actually useful roles)
anyway let's start by group

(G)I-DLE

I wonder why Soyeon has so many lines... maybe cause she literally makes the songs and goes well with lemme think... all of them? She's also essentially the only rapper
Shuhua has less lines cause she is the visual or variety person or whatever you wanna call it, she has her role, it's not singing
Soojin and Soyeon have center the most cause they are the center and main dancer respectively
Makes sense? Ye i know miraculous really.

Oh look, it's Mia and palls, must be cause she gets preferential treatment
except it's cause she fits the song the best and if it wasn't her singing in those parts the songs wouldn't even be as popular as they are
and a friendly reminder that she's the Main vocalist... weird that she would have so many singing parts, how could they!

Sehun and Kai do not need more lines, they get all the cringe lines as is, and they are the main dancers especially now that Lay is... on hiatus...
They have 3 extremely powerful vocals, and 2 more solid ones in Xiumin and Suho, they also just so happen to actually have someone that knows how to rap, partially.
This one never even made sense to begin with...

Every other group ever

In an extreme case like when ChungHa had like 2 minutes of that one IOI song and another member had the other 1 minute, and even in that situation it was 1 song on an entire album/discography, may have just been the fact that her voice was the best for the given song (which it admittedly was), you might be able to call this unfair

For absolutely everything else where it's completely valid for a person whos main job is to be the vocal or rapper, it is not valid. You may want your fave to sing more songs, they may have a nice voice

Anyways I agree but also sometimes it's a bit much, especially when the main vocal get a part that goes la la la la that anyone can do. Overall I do agree most line distributions make sense, but not all.

On the topic tho:
I think the problem is that the other members not blessed with a lot of lines are also the ones with less screentime or center time. More lines = more center and screentime.

A visual will at most have the same amount of screen time as the one with the most lines. I can't recall any visual that had ALOT of more screentimes than the others, which doesn't happen when a member has the most lines.
The others also barely get any opportunities to fulfill their roles.

For example, as you mentioned, Shuhua in (G)I-DLE is the visual, yet she doesn't really have any outside jobs for her visual role to actually work. Look at Irene and how many tv spots etc. she has, surely that comparison might be a bit unfair since (G)I-DLE are still at the beginning but lets take Weki Meki's Doyeon, iirc she already had multiple deals with brands etc.. I don't remember ever reading on Shuhua actually fulfilling her visual role.

Agreed, that is why I say that visuals are essentially just that... a pretty face. They are there for idk what reason exactly? To be pretty and attract koreans most of all. Maybe it's variety but I don't remember if Shuhua was that good at variety since she's pretty shy usually. Shuhua is definitely the korean standard of beauty in some ways so.

iirc i made a thread once after they debuted asking why soyeon doesnt do alot of variety because Yuqi got so much when they debuted, Yuqi is definitely the variety queen of (g)i-dle
