Does anyone else hate people saying this? Sometimes it can have some truth, but it never has the full truth. You're talking down to people for something that may not even be true? I could understand saying "if you think black people are inferior, you're the problem". Sure, that I can get behind. "If you don't understand this, you're the problem". "If you don't know what I'm talking about you're the problem". "If you've done this one random event that could be a sign of racism but also could be related to something else you're the problem" are different. No. Maybe they are part of the problem. Maybe they're not. But being all high and mighty and talking about how other people suck and you're woke and superior isn't helping anyone in any way. If someone is the problem, you think they're going to care? They're going to blow you off. The people that are affected are the ones who care about the cause but get labeled as problematic by someone who may be completely off base.

Again like my previous thread you is general, it doesn't refer to anyone specific.

I think the main problem with this statement is that it's often too simplified when in reality there's almost no issues that you can actually simplify to that extent. Like for example you can say 'if you hate black people, you're the problem' like yeah that one's obvious, but with 'if you don't understand this, you're the problem' or something else thats just meant to get you to think of your place in this situation, you really can't simplify it that much. For black discrimination in particular there are so many layers of history and so many different issues that I feel like you really can't just call someone 'the problem' because they didn't understand your vague statement.

Instead of 'if ___________ you're the problem' I think we should say something more like 'if _____________ you should educate yourself further on the matter and think about where you really stand' or something like that, something that instead of accusing people of being the bad guy for maybe doing a single thing that could be explained with means other than just being racist, its something that actually encourages people to learn more about the issue.

It's like i've seen some people saying that if people get defensive after the 'you're the problem' statement then they're a closeted racist, but thats just bullshit cuz the vast majority of these 'you're the problem' statements are just vague and overly simplified that it no longer carries the full weight or truth of the matter and if you tell people they're the problem for something like that then of course they're going to feel a bit wronged and get defensive, that doesn't make them a racist, they're just being told they're the problem when they were most likely just trying to educate themselves.

Exactly my thoughts but actually well worded :sanapray:

I absolutely agree. In particular this "woke" thing is getting on my nerves because what started as a way to point out real struggles has turned into a radicalism that instead of educating and unifying, divides even more.
