Science SARU is back with another Netflix lisenced anime. Japan Sinks 2020, Nihon Chinbotsu, is based on famous disaster novel of same name. The plot is pretty much about Japan sinking after earthquake, and such touches subjects of natural disasters that are close to lives and experiences of many japanese.

Synopsis (MAL): "Shortly after the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, a major earthquake hits Japan. Amidst the chaos, siblings Ayumu and Gou of the Mutou household, begin to escape the city with their family of four. The sinking Japanese archipelagos, however, relentlessly pursue the family.
Plunged into extreme conditions, life and death, and the choice of meeting and parting—in the face of dreadful reality, the Mutou siblings believe in the future and acquire the strength to survive with utmost effort "

Science SARU's Masaki Yuasa will be directing the series, giving it quite huge name behind. Masaki Yuasa has directed following Science SARU's series: Devilman Crybaby, Eizouken. Ping Pong the Animation, Kaiba, Tatami Galaxy.. He always takes on pretty interesting and non-common series, so I think we can also expect sth special from this one.

Japan Sinks 2020 will be released Jul 9th on Japanese Netflix and it will have 10 episodes. There isn't info yet when it will come to Netflix in other countries.

I read the title and thought a boat sank or something :wimwim:

Anyways, this looks like it would be pretty good. I think I'll check it out when it's released

It's pretty Science Saru, reminds me a lot of wha they had in Devilman Crybaby :jisoosmh:
That's true but this looks like an old anime, like srsly the characters are animated like 0 while the rest is fully animated so it contrasts so badly. Devilman Crybaby was for the most part consistent and at least had original looking characters this just looks way too old.

well i have to agree, i don't think it's all the scenes in the trailer but in some the characters look quite low resolution compared to background :wat:

Disaster/survival plots usually don't interest me much and the animation looks wonky so I guess I'll wait and watch :wimwim:

They can be pretty intense, but the plot is pretty much always the same
