How can I give up K-pop overall? (1 Viewer)

I want to now give it up and get rid of it from my life once and for all but I don't know how to.
It means I will have to give up the group's I love, give up going on this forum since it would still remind me of K-pop. It means I would have to stop following Dreamcatcher anymore and not see them get their first win.
It means I will have to get rid of my Dreamcatcher, Gfriend and (G)I-DLE merchandise which I have and delete all of my Korean music on my Spotify playlists.

I don't want to have anything to do with K-pop anymore but I feel trapped and can't get out because all the stuff I have talked about is making me hang on to it.

I don't know what to do?

i haven't really gave up on kpop yet so i wouldnt know, but i think you should try to unfollow all the kpop groups you follow on social media and dispose/donate the kpop merch you have. also , it would be good if you stop listening to kpop songs for the time being.

I want to give it up because kpop itself is too dangerous for me to get involved in, especially with so much darkness in the industry going on and it seems to be outweighing everything that is good about it.
This Jimin and Mina scandal has been the last straw and it makes me feel bad. Should a genre of music make me feel more bad than good?

All of the sex scandals, all of the bullying scandals, all of the abuse scandals, all of the suicides etc really make me feel bad and I know kpop isn't the only industry it happens in, but I'm heavily involved as a fan and it's becoming a part of me which I don't want.

It's not just about the music in Kpop where it is in other genres, it's like you are literally a apart of it and because you're so invested in it, it's so hard to just leave. It's like a drug and like an actual culture.

Even in news, a lot of it is kpop related and it's extremely hard not to see it.

I feel like I'm in between a rock and a hard place.

It's also even certain ships that I love and find hard to let go.

It's really unhealthy for me and now I have realised that if I don't get out of it soon, how will I get out of it later?

I think the only possibility is to find something that you love just as much. Wether be that a hobby, sports, art etc. just something u can devote your time more to than K-Pop

Put your time and attention into something else. Whether it's anime, video games, wrestling, a TV show, comic books, there are lots of options. Whichever one grabs your attention the most.

I also think you don't have to get rid of what you already have. You can still have your playlists, your merchandise etc. Just don't add anything new.

Tbh I think whichever new interest you get into, the entire entertainment industry is filled with stories like this. There's the good with the bad but it seems more personal in Kpop because the idols/fans cultivate such a close relationship. Even when it's from a group you don't stan, you connect it subconsciously to the groups and idols you do love and it raises questions in your head.

Still, if it becomes overwhelming, I understand the need to get away from it. Good luck to you.

Well, I do love doing my online marketing and all the stuff that is involved. I am also interested in Japanese music, but the last time I really got into it was when I was obsessed with the 48 groups, much like I am with kpop now until I slowly went away from it and slowly got into Kpop.
I think that things that have a culture built into it like the 48 groups, Kpop, Wrestling, etc is what I need to stay away from really.
Luckily, wrestling hasn't been that good, so I'm not obsessed with it and only love certain wrestlers.

If possible, I would love to love kpop just for the music, but that's almost impossible where there is so much more about it.

To me personally, K-pop is first and foremost a music genre. I love following the groups I stan though and sure, whilst behind closed doors we never know what's really happening, but for the most part, I don't dwell on the what ifs or the unknown. That in itself is unhealthy. Am I concerned that my current fave groups don't get along? I mean, there is a chance the members might not all be really close and/or best of friends, but I don't mind that too much at all.

I believe I notice the real friendships in my fave groups, as it's not too difficult to notice the groups that aren't so close if you pay enough attention. What will come of those relationships in the future (such as this current situation with AOA) will come. I won't wait for it, and I certainly won't let it affect how I currently feel about the groups I follow. Chances are, most the groups I follow will be just fine, and are as close to one another as they seem.

Sure, K-pop has it's dark side, no doubt about that. Very dark for some of the smaller companies. But that's life. Most parts of life suck and isn't great at all behind closed doors. I find that focusing on the positive and good, out weighs the dark side. Because, how much must you give up in life, if you focus on the bad. I'd drop music, movies, video games etc if I focused on the bad/corrupt within those industries.

I hope you focus on what made you love K-pop in the first place my friend. Never dwell on the what ifs. You could be wrong and regret certain decisions you made looking back. If you want a "break" from K-pop, focus purely on the music. Music is therapeutic to some, and at least good music is nice to listen too. Take a step back from following your fave groups to deeply for a while. Figure out how you feel after a while. Don't force decisions on yourself when you are so uncertain about something. Let it come naturally.

Hmm, that could be a good idea. I mean, I have been listening to Gfriend nonstop lately on spotify, but when I am listening to them, I don't think they are kpop, I just think of them as music and it's just when I go on forums, news, twitter etc, then I'm reminded of all the kpop horrors, etc.

I just don't want to wake up and the first thing I see if that an idol has died from being bullied, or idols are getting charged for sexual abuse, and stuff like that. It's a reason why I don't listen to ordinary news anymore anyway because there is so much negativity and it gets me down.

Anime is another culture which I was also obsessed with but then slowly got out of it.

You will learn to deal with it. Back in 2018-2019 it was the same for, seeing how people hated on Jennie, slutshame her, disturbing messages, the bandwagon hate etc brought me to the edge.. i was about to let go, couldnt anymore...
But its the same everywhere 😞 k-pop or not..

I will also try to not to go into news worthy threads on kps, look at negative stuff on twitter, instagram, etc.

When you put it that way, I don't blame you for wanting to take these steps.
I personally would just stay away from all the negative and only be invested in all the positive stuff about it.
But then again. It has been hit so hard and strongly, K-Pop with all the scandals and the suicides.

Goo Hara's I still can't get over to this day.
If it's what you want to do, I will support your decision.

I gave up most of social media due to its negative impact and nonsensical crap consistently being posted and commented on.
How it affected me was quite terrible. And I am not going back to that stage of my life ever again.

If you do decide to leave for good. It was great knowing you and I wish you well with your future and endevours. :)

I think I will even give KPS a break now and disable my account until I am ready to come back. I know I will miss it but I have to get out of the habit of coming on here all the time.
I respect and love everyone on here, even if I haven't got on with everyone.
Everyone's opinions are valid and the community here is great.

I may be gone for longer this time as I will focus on other things that I will try to get into instead.
I probably will come back in the future though, I just don't know when.

it's really sad to hear that you want to give it up but if it personally affects you in a bad way then i understand why. i don't think there's a need to get rid of everything all of sudden, you can firstly just take a break from it or keep on supporting your favourite groups and the music they release without being heavily involved in other aspects of k-pop. no matter what you decide to do, i hope you eventually find something which makes you feel better.

The industry definitely has its dark moments but when you have as many people in the kpop industry as there are then you are bound to get into the darker side of life since you not only have to think about all the members but also all the staff involved in the companies as well. I do think about the people who do need the support and aren't actually bad people though and just wanted to sing or dance which shouldn't be grouped with those who might've wanted it as an easy way to get famous.

If it's affecting your wellbeing though then you should definitely take a step back and try reconnecting with other hobbies and things that you might've enjoyed and might work as a better fall back than something with the kind of industry kpop has like I have gaming as my outlet like that. There's also the block site extension that I can recommend if you have a hard time resisting coming on the forum or other sites too and you could also make separate accounts if you use social media personally too like one ofr your personal stuff and another as your fan account.

Hope you come back in a better place and are able to manage everything better.

I don't think it's just a k-pop problem, it has to do a lot with the way people see things.

We can't do more than trying our best ourselves.
Focus on what is essential to you and be safe.
