It's actually pretty rare for a virus to have the potential to jump from animal to human and if they are researching it now then if it does adapt to do that then we'd have a better handle on it.

I thought this was going to be about the black death having a "comeback" because that's been trending. The bubonic plague actually never left it's just that antibiotics are used to treat it now, a lot of diseases that wreaked havoc are now treatable with modern medicine.

Reports like these are alarmist media that it meant to scare people and get clicks.

Actually very few people die from it in developed countries thanks to modern medicine. Those people are going to be totally fine unless they haven't had vaccines or whatnot. It's just a scare tactic. There were outbreaks in other countries already this year but the fact that it's China probably caused this crazy hype about it.
