it must have been annoying. I do get your stance. Since I have a russian accent, it has been very difficult here too cause people think so differently about us.

How did your Russian accent come about if I may ask?
Do you have like a Russian parent and a German one or something else?
I haven't really known a German to have a Russian accent before.

I always thought my accent was mixed from my mum and dad. So her Asian accent kind of came through.
Well what I tell myself anyways.

well my mother grew up in russia ( tho our family is one of those who migrated there decades ago so in fact we are german, the town my grandma grew up was all germans, koreans, greeks and all.). I kinda picked up her accent and can speak russian.
My whole family from my grandma's side migrated back to germany before I was born.

I see. So it was more a matter of just getting it from your mum. Not to do with your actual background.
That makes sense and it does happen. It's like when I had to go to a speech therapist to sound 'more' Australian. Kind of stupid.
But I went there for a few years, it felt so weird....

I guess so.
I mean my family does speak russian around them. always. so it's not difficult to pick things up when you grow up since even when they talk in german an accent is noticable.

what's sucks is that by folks here we are told that we basically don't really belong since we are russian, yet in russia my great-grandparents and grandma and all were called fascist just for their german background.

And tell me to go back to my own country all the time.

It's like when my brother and I were walking down the street years ago, Some dumbarse white guy, didn't let us pass him, because we had a darker complexion than him. After calling us all these horrible racial slurs. He was really drunk, but it hurt so bad and I was so scared.

This town is full of them sadly. People like him.
There shouldn't be an issue here with racism or anything judgmental.

We are so multi-cultural now. I guess some just are so bitter and angry it consumed them.

Yes I love it. It so different from how American English sound like. Like my name is Alice and I just love it when my Australian friend call my name. It just sound nicer to my ear. Also same with British accent. My mom and her side of the fam are from the UK and sometime I wish I had a British accent.

My grandmother is classy because of that. Being half English and Australian as she is.
