I'm all for using jokes as a way to cope but sis....theres a line. You have to use stuff that happened to YOU as a joke. Like how I can call myself a slave but if someone else said that to me, that's not dark humor...that's racist

True. That's like when my irl best friend makes a joke about having an eating disorder or wanting to kill herself, it pisses me off because she doesn't know what it's like to actually have an eating disorder or to deal with self harm.

I think that if one can't recapture the context in which that kind of stuff was accepted, it's better to just avoid doing those kind of jokes.

Sadly there are some authors that still sell good with that kind of material, so we'll still see that kind of thing for a while.
