Korea gave TWICE the Nations' Girl Group title. Firstly because TWICE and their releases fits almost all age brackets in Korea.

• TWICE has a cute/girly image, which in Asian countries, is how they like girls to be. (For the the older demographic or the parents)
• Their outfits are not provocative at all, which makes them safe for kids. (Kids demographic);
• Their songs are all about girl's innocent love, which makes them relatable for female fans, while this gives male fans an insight about what's going on with girls when they're in love. (Teens and young adult demographic)
• The melody of their songs is generally sweet so it's not ear-straining ( for elder demographic)

Second, and I think the main reason that made them the Nations' Girl Group, is that they released Cheer Up. It was a massive hit, even used as electoral campaign song by both presidency rivals. Then they followed it up with TT, Knock Knock, Signal, etc. Whch were all loved by the Korean public.

Third, I think Koreans acknowledged what TWICE achieved during that time and told themselves that this girl group deserves the title.

Going back to 2016, TWICE was the first 3rd gen girl group, for a long time, to break into the 100,000 physical album sales with Cheer Up, since physical album sales record is dominated by boy groups. TWICE competed with boy groups. They were also the group to set new youtube records for kpop music videos: Most viewed debut MV, 1st to reach 200, or 300, or 400 million views for gg mv, and they once hold the most viewed mv by a girl group title. It was impressive at that time because they are not promoting internationally yet they received so much attention. TWICE achieved these things while promoting only in Korea and I think Koreans acknowledged their power.

Fourth, there were not much contoversies surrounding them or their agency so they have kept their image clean so far.

Fifth, they are genuine and hardworking. And amidst all their super busy schedule, they're always smiling and very kind to fans.

If you're still looking for an answer, at this point, I think, the most accurate answer will be from a Korean living in Korea.

I mean I think you are on AKP as well, so I can kinda understand this mentality, but the attitudes on this forum as far as I have seen are quite positive and supportive.

I get being like... mad... but I don't think there is many ppl active on this forum to be mad AT for this.

This mirrors much of what I've written about why TWICE is the Nation's Girl Group. So I would agree with the description.



My explanation I copied from another thread:


Based on the way Korea has used the moniker in print and the kind of groups they have directly referred to as Nation's Girl Group, it's not merely a popularity title given to any group that achieves favor by Korea or earned only through current chart or trend. Its a specific kind of affection related title bestowed on a group, with specific implications.

The "Nation's Girl Group" has only been explicitly given in print by Korean media to two groups that I know of. SNSD and TWICE.

Think about the kind of group those two are/were at the time they were bestowed these titles. They were large, family friendly, conservative, youthful girl groups with widespread adoration across demographics.

The title seems to evoke the idea of "beloved daughters" and implies a representative cultural role.

In other words, the model of what Korean society desires its feminine youth to be. Implicit in this is a conservative undercurrent in line with greater Korean cultural values.

A group like TWICE fits this model. SNSD fit this model.

My guess, and money, would be on the next Nation's Girl Group to also fit this model.

I was active on AKP like.... 1.5 years or so ago and I left that place bcs of how toxic and aggressive it is. (+ finding out in depth about the whole Ailee nudes drama did not help) and I left that place for the same reason I'm not active on twitter. It's not worth the hassle and getting mad constantly over.

I can believe that, just for me personally.... there's good ppl here too and filtering out the bad ppl isn't worth it for me.
but everybody isn't me and tolerates toxic ppl differently.
